Hello,

with my Asus motherboard, red washers are provided. Should I place them between the mounting screws and the motherboard?

Thank you for your reply

    Hello.

Based on what these red washers look like, they may be elements for:

    - either isolating the motherboard from the metal structure of the case,
    - or isolating the screws from any contact with the circuits of the motherboard.

    That’s it.

    Hello

The red washers protect the motherboard during the tightening of the fixing screws and during repeated assemblies.

Should you install them if they are provided by the manufacturer seems like a superfluous question here. What is the purpose of an assembly and usage manual from the manufacturer.

Should I put tires on my car while my cart has metal wheels without tires.

Tractors are therefore equipped with metal wheels. While these allow for fairly easy movement in the fields despite a lower speed, the short stretches on the road are a real torment.

      Hello Eric.

Assembly instructions are not always provided...

    Hello

These are felt washers, they are indeed intended to isolate the screws from the PCB of the motherboard but not for electrical insulation; it's solely to protect the PCB from the friction of the screw when tightened. Nowadays, on modern boards, the screw locations are reinforced, making this washer unnecessary, but if you have them, use them.

    Small clarification:

The felt disks are no longer included in the motherboard bundles but with the cases instead. For about ten years, their use has become optional. Some case manufacturers continue to provide them nonetheless.

    Hello

Yes, even Asus no longer ships them with certain motherboards, but they may have also changed the motherboards in terms of screws.

And the manuals online, indeed, when we see motherboards produced under the same name for years, there are small PCB evolutions that are not always documented.
