Memorize window positions and sizes in Windows 11

Hello,

Without using the anchoring function, which doesn't suit me, I used to be able to activate a setting in Windows that allowed me to position and resize a window (Word, for example) so that it retained both its position and size upon the next opening.

Today, I can’t seem to find this setting in my Windows 11, and none of my internet searches have led me to a solution. This forces me to resize a document initially created by someone else every time I open it... (and I have thirty to open daily).

I would be eternally grateful to anyone who can find a solution for me or help me locate this cursed setting that has mysteriously disappeared (unless it's my Alzheimer's...)

Thank you.

Hello Cathozie,

Generally, with Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11, to open a single window of your application (Browser, Word, etc.), just adjust the size and position with the mouse, then close the window (X) at the top right.

Reopening the same application is done just like the one that was closed.

To have it "fullscreen", use the "maximize" button at the top right between (_) and (X), close with (X), and reopening will be the same...

Make sure to open only once (1 window) the concerned app; in the case of multiple windows of the same app being open, it's the last one closed that sets the tone...

If a window (a Word document, for example) was closed with a different size, it will reopen at the size it had when closed, adjust its size and save again.

See you later

Hello,

By the way, I sometimes encounter this situation with Excel for the reason mentioned, but never with Word, which always opens in full page and full menu as follows.

Good evening to both of you,

I know that it's the expected behavior of all windows, but the problem is precisely that this is not the case, particularly for files (news articles that I need to edit for a publisher) whose format could correspond to the dimensions of a laptop (very wide and only taking up half of my very large screen in height).

When I composed my question, that’s how they presented themselves, in any case. And now, inexplicably, the windows open just like the last one was closed.

I’m signing off for tonight. I’ll see if it’s still correct tomorrow. In the meantime, have a good evening both of you and a big thank you.

Cath :-)
