How to use Microsoft Office 2003 on a new PC

Hello everyone. I am going to buy a new ASUS PC with Windows 11, and my current ASUS with Windows 10 dates back to 2013 running 8.0, then 8.1, then 10 (which I uploaded myself). I use Microsoft Office 2003 Excel and Word, for which I have the installation CD. I have created personal files like BUDGET, etc., and I am worried about my new purchase and the compatibility of Office 2003.
Will I be able to use the files created in 2013 on the new ASUS PC, and especially how......!!! My files are saved on a USB stick.
PS: I am just a user, and I created these files back in 2003 on another PC running Windows XP, and it would be too tedious to recreate them. I update them daily and modify them for the following year....
Thank you for your help with an explanation via email for a "beginner."
Have a nice day and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello,
The answer is mixed; some sources say yes, while others report malfunctions on Windows 10 and 11; it doesn't hurt to try.
It seems healthier to buy an Office 2019 or 2021 license online for less than 1 euro.
In any case, anything before Office 2007 (which runs without issues on Windows 10 and 11) only knows the doc and xls formats, meaning you would need to re-save each file upon opening to the docx and xlsx formats, which should be done without loss unless using particular formulas or macros that are no longer in use.
Hello,
I've been using FreeOffice for a few months on a new computer. It installs and uninstalls very easily, see MPMP10's response, and it accepts Excel files without any problem, except for macros. Furthermore, it gives you the choice regarding the menus, between the classic layout of Excel 2003 and the new ribbon menus. Additionally, it is free, which is a nice bonus. In fact, it's a simplified version of Excel, more than enough for my small tasks.
You could install this software and test it on one of your Excel files for which you will have made one or several backup copies stored safely.
The word processor is simple and practical, it includes a spell checker, but no grammar checker; I compensate by using the very effective site "Scriben".

Best regards.
Hello,
There is this available for free.
FreeOffice: the best free equivalent of Microsoft Office
“ FreeOffice works wonderfully with files created and formatted in Microsoft Office. This suite ensures lossless usage. ”

And this as well.

Thank you very much for all this information, I think I can find my solution, as I can't imagine redoing these files I created in 2003 and refined over the years, with daily use and budget updates generally in September with the new figures.
Perhaps a silly question, if I can't manage... Could I use this current PC solely for Microsoft Office 2003 with my files, since anyway, there are no more updates for 2003?
Have a great weekend
Hello,
Does your new computer have a CD drive? I don't think so...
So as Brucine, whom I greet, said, " It seems healthier to buy an Office 2019 or 2021 license online for less than 1 euro. " and " re-save each file upon opening in docx and xlsx formats, which should be done without any loss unless using particular formulas or macros that are out of use. "
See you later,
Hello,
Indeed, most current laptops no longer have a CD drive.
But if you really want to test 2003 (which doesn't negate what I've said otherwise), there's nothing stopping you from installing it from an ISO downloaded on the PC; just search for "office 2003 iso" and download the correct version, Standard or Pro depending on the license.
Is your Asus still working?
If so, you can create an iso file from your Office 2003 CD:
https://lecrabeinfo.net/tutoriels/creer-une-image-iso-dun-disque-cd-dvd-sur-windows/
then Rufus: https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/19615-rufus/
you put this iso file on a USB stick and you will be able to install Office 2003 on your new computer.
See you!
Hello,
For the interest it holds (why would one want to use 2003 unless one already has it and doesn't want to spend a few cents, but even then 2007, which supports docx/xlsx, is preferable), there are surely other sites.
No version of Office (except Starter 2010 and Office for the Web) is free; if the download includes anything to activate the license, that might be the cause of the behavior.
Hello,
Ah, are we handing out dunce caps just like in school days?
What about the comment I made to Eugene, whose relation to you I don't know, and that mentions a surprising virus?
Obviously, there’s no point in wanting to use 2003 if you don’t already have it and the license with it. You don't need it since you already have the CD, unless there's no drive on the new PC.
I have nothing against using 2003 for the basic things you're mentioning, but that doesn't guarantee its smooth operation on Windows 11; otherwise, there wouldn't be anything to redo, just re-save the files with a more recent version in docx/xlsx formats as they're used.
If there's no CD drive, you can find ISO files for nearly all versions of Office available there, which we have no reason to doubt:

I'm not a novice either, but I don't see how the age of some or others is relevant in a discussion.
Have a good day.
Oh yes ;) if that works, it's easier !!

Thank you for your help, if this works, that would be great, which model supports the CD for copying to a USB stick, please?
Have a great weekend
