Hello.

While using Revo Uninstaller, I realized that I had two different VLC versions, one 32-bit and the other 64-bit. So I wanted to uninstall everything, re-download VLC 64-bit, and install it again. But then comes the drama: when I start the installation, I get the message "VLC is running, it will be closed," and then the installation stops. I tried restarting, cleaning the registry without success. Moreover, I have checked and VLC is not running at all. I don't know what to do anymore. I think it's definitely Revo Uninstaller that messed things up.

    Hello,

Why did you use third-party software to uninstall a program on your PC!?

Personally, I think it's something you should never do...

Yes, you're right, but your answer doesn't really help me much. What's done is done, and now what I would like is to solve this problem... By the way, I clearly am not the only one. Thanks anyway.

    Hello,

Revo Uninstaller is quite effective for completely uninstalling software as it removes all traces of residual files. I think the uninstallation did not complete correctly in your case.

I invite you to access the following paths and delete the VLC folder if present:

    • C:\Program Files
    • C:\Program Files (x86)
    • C:\Users\your-name\AppData (check the 3 folders)

Restart your computer. Then download a new version of the installation file from the VLC site and try to install it.

    Hello,

Perform a system restore and choose a date prior to the issue, that is, before using Revo-uninstaller.

    Windows + R
    Type --> rstrui.exe and OK.

Hello everyone and thank you for your help. I found the solution.

First of all, I couldn't use a restore point (for some unknown reason my Windows has no restore points, I need to look into that...).

The solution: install VLC via the Windows Store. In fact, I now think that the issue was not related to REVO but to the VLC installer. Indeed, this issue has already been reported on a CCM forum but without any solution found.

    Thank you for your help.

      Hello,

This is a way to circumvent the problem, not to solve it; the Microsoft Store installs the corresponding application and does not take into account whether the software exists or not.

If the software in question is uninstalled, in principle, the control panel is enough and its services and processes stopped (in principle, the control panel is also sufficient); I do not know of any example where it cannot be installed except for an inappropriate version or a faulty download from the same type of site (always prefer, in this case, to download directly from the publisher's site).

I checked, the same thing happened on my new setup with a first-time installation > it's a bug with the VLC installer on the site, nothing special to do, just install it via the Windows Store, while waiting for this bug to be fixed by the VLC team.
