Copy of homemade DVD to the internal hard drive of my PC

Hello,

A few years ago, I burned videos onto DVDs using my Asus PC. When it was replaced by an Aspire 315 from ACER, I realized that I had lost a whole folder of videos. My question is: How can I copy the DVDs I have onto the hard drive of my new PC?

I have the up-to-date VLC media software.

If I need to use an external drive for my PC, which one would you recommend I buy to do this?

Thank you in advance for your response.

        HELLO T3chNg3n

I received my burner reader, but there were no instructions on how to start recording a homemade DVD, what should I do? Thank you. I tried copy/paste, but where?

    Hello,

Indeed, if your new PC doesn't have a built-in drive (which seems to be the case), you'll need to use an external drive connected via USB. You can find them at all multimedia retailers (starting from around €20). If it's for occasional use, you can get just about any of them, but for more regular use (or if you have a lot of DVDs), it's better to go for a reputable brand.

Example this Asus seems to have a decent quality/price ratio.

Then, if it's DVDs you burned yourself, a simple copy-paste from Windows Explorer should work.

    Best regards.

Thank you for this response, does this SDRW-08D2S device require special software to operate, can I copy the content of my DVD to my Windows 11 PC using VLC and how do I do it? Thank you.

These readers are "plug & play," there is nothing to install. And there's no need for VLC, the content of the DVD will be copyable like any external storage device.

        Hello,

If the files on these DVDs are not original movies, just do a "copy-paste".

Hello and thank you for your response, you wrote to me that I could save what is on my DVD by copying and pasting (Mac Bernic told me, whom I also thank), thank you for this information, I am therefore buying an external disk drive SDRW-08D2S as you recommended.

        Best regards

    Hello,

What types of files are on the DVD?

    Are there folders?

With additional details inside, if more clarification is needed?

If it's a recent Windows version with the PC drivers, it should work in principle.

The drive just needs to be plugged in and used (Plug & Play)

      Hi,

Did you purchase the videos, movies, or anything else on these DVDs already recorded, meaning with the movie on it, or did you record them yourself?

In addition to my earlier comment, I just looked at this story about the numbers behind the video; indeed, behind Video TS VOB there are 140366 KB and behind VTS-01-1.VOB, there are 1048574 KB. What can we conclude from this, and what should we do with these numbers?

I have to say that I'm really stuck, should I download VOB to solve my problems?
