How to securely erase my MacBook before selling it
Anonymous user -
Hello everyone,
I’m planning to sell my MacBook soon, but I want to make sure that all my personal data is completely erased before handing it over to someone else. I’ve tried deleting my files manually, but I’m not sure that’s enough to guarantee they can’t be recovered.
What is the best way to completely wipe the system, including my personal files, my applications, and my accounts, so that the new owner can set up the MacBook as if it were new? Also, should I delete my Apple ID, and how do I log out of everything?
I’ve heard that resetting the MacBook through the settings isn’t completely secure, so I want to make sure I do it right. Any help or detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!

Hello,
You don't need any third-party software to erase your personal information before selling your Mac, let alone a commercial and paid application.
Just follow the instructions provided by Apple themselves here:
Steps to take before selling, giving away, exchanging, or recycling your Mac

Hello,
When you sell your MacBook, it is essential to ensure that all your personal data is permanently erased to protect your privacy. Manually deleting files or resetting the MacBook may seem sufficient, but these methods often leave traces of recoverable data.
To completely and securely wipe your system, I recommend using SysTools Data Wipe Software. This tool ensures that all your personal files, applications, and accounts are irreversibly deleted, making your MacBook safe for the new owner.
Additionally, don't forget to:
- Sign out of iCloud, iMessage, and FaceTime to remove your Apple ID.
- Deauthorize your MacBook from services like iTunes.
- Reset the MacBook to factory settings after wiping the data.
SysTools Data Wipe is easy to use and ensures that your personal data remains confidential. Let me know if you need detailed instructions!
Best regards!
