Hello,

I bought a MacBook Air a week ago and now it's the second time today that it shuts down by itself as soon as it reaches 20 or 30% battery.
At the time, it's impossible to turn it back on and I have to wait a minimum of 2 hours after several attempts before it turns back on..
I don't understand, it's brand new. Could this be related to the Mavericks version??

If someone has a tip, that would be great :)
Thank you!!

Configuration: Mac OS X (10.9.1) / Safari 7.0.1

Hello,

The battery of a laptop needs to be calibrated:
- after purchasing it, use it until the battery is empty
- fully charge it
- use it until the battery is empty again

Now, what you can do is reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
There are three methods to reset it depending on the model of Mac:
- On a desktop Mac, you need to turn it off, unplug the power cord, and press the power button for 5 seconds. Then plug the power cord back in and restart the Mac
- On a removable battery portable Mac, you need to turn it off, unplug the MagSafe adapter, remove the battery, press the power button for 5 seconds, then reinstall the battery, plug in the MagSafe adapter and restart the Mac.
- On a non-removable battery portable Mac, you need to turn it off, plug in the MagSafe adapter, then simultaneously press for a few seconds the Shift, Ctrl, Option keys (those on the left) and the power button, then release them all at the same time.

Once the SMC is reset, you can proceed with the steps to calibrate your battery.

Hello,

Thank you for your response, but I am a novice with Macs and I don’t know how to remove the battery or if my Mac has a "removable" or "non-removable" battery.
I will still calibrate the battery as you said by draining it completely and then charging it fully.

I will let you know if this problem comes back.

Best regards,
Andyonee
