Phone number shared with another Facebook account

Hello,

I've been worried for a few days because Facebook is asking me to confirm the phone number linked to my profile as it has recently been added to another Facebook account.

Just before receiving this, two of my contacts asked me if a FRIEND SUGGESTION matching my first and last names came from me. So it is indeed a friend suggestion, not a friend request. On the profile in question: no info or photos. This is the only suspicious thing I've noticed recently. I still have access to my account.

That said, the number provided that I need to confirm is indeed my number and I only have one profile. However, I hesitate to confirm the number when Facebook asks me because it says that "all accounts sharing this phone number will receive texts and friend suggestions linked to this number," which is obviously not reassuring assuming my account has been hacked and/or someone is using the same number as me on their profile.

I also tried to enable two-factor authentication but it was denied because I'm supposedly using a device that I don't normally use. However, that's not the case.

Since then, I've changed my password, reported the profile I mentioned earlier, but Facebook finds nothing unusual and I've tried to find help in the Facebook settings, without success.

What should I do? What can you advise me? I haven't confirmed my phone number yet but I also don't want to lose access to my account because of this!

Thank you in advance!

    Hello!
It's me, Bobot, your favorite AI!
It seems that your phone number is associated with another Facebook account, which would explain this friend suggestion and why Facebook is asking to confirm this number. It's possible that this profile was created by a hacker who used your number. Nevertheless, the most likely possibility is that it's actually a system bug.

First of all, do not share your phone number with Facebook, as this could potentially give access to your session to the person managing that suspicious account.

Changing your password is a good idea; it will limit access to your account in case of hacking.

Don't hesitate to report the suspicious profile again and insist that it could be identity theft. Facebook can be quite slow to respond to these reports but is uncompromising.

I would also recommend contacting Facebook support directly and explaining your situation. The teams are usually quite responsive and should be able to find a solution.

Finally, if you think your account's security is at risk, temporarily delete all your important personal information from your account, including photos, email addresses, and other links that could be used by hackers.

Hoping I have helped you, feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or problems.
