I can't start a virtual machine with VMWARE

Hello,

I have a Thinkpad L590 and I want to launch an Ev-ng virtual machine but I'm getting an error message when I activate it:

"Virtualized Intel VT-x/EPT is not supported on this platform.

Continue without virtualized Intel VT-x/EPT? "

I have disabled the hypervisor but I'm still getting the same error message.

Do you have any idea?

Thank you

Hello

Normally, you can recheck the steps already followed in this tutorial

https://www.malekal.com/comment-activer-la-virtualisation-intel-vt-x-ept-ou-amd-r-rvi-dans-virtualbox-ou-vmware/

Then on this second one

https://www.malekal.com/resoudre-virtualized-intel-vt-x-ept-ou-amd-r-rvi-is-not-supported-on-this-plataform-vmware/

The site offers many tutorials and explanations while waiting for more informed responses.

Hello,

EVE-NG is inherently virtualization.

Unlike Virtual Box and the "professional" (and paid) versions of VMWare (VSphere, ESXi...), VMWare no longer supports nested virtualization between versions 12 and 15 inclusive.

https://www.informatiweb-pro.net/virtualisation/vmware/vmware-workstation-11-virtualiser-hyper-v-virtualisation-imbriquee.html

With a compatible version, the additional feature (and the service) Hyper V must be enabled, virtualization must be activated in the compatible BIOS, and the Intel virtualization option must be enabled in the virtual machine.

That's just the Windows aspect of the matter, and it doesn't answer the question of whether virtualization is enabled in the BIOS and what version of VMWare Workstation is being used.

In the first case, if the option doesn't exist, there's no solution.

In the second case (inappropriate VMWare version), VMWare Player Workstation no longer exists as a standalone; download version 16 from a third-party site or the Pro version from VMWare under a non-commercial license.

Depending on the nature of the virtual machine, the number of processors and virtual cores may be enough to crash the machine, test by gradually decreasing.

If none of this works, try your luck with Virtual Box.

And if not, I don't know.

Virtualization is indeed enabled in the BIOS

The version of Vmware is 17.6.1

I'm not sure if VT-d is required, some sources report that it would be inoperative in Workstation anyway, but I also don't know if enabling it is harmful.

Same for IOMMU, I don't know if it is functional.

As for the rest, as I mentioned, I have no other leads than to try via Virtual Box to see if that works around the problem.

Thank you, I am currently installing Virtual Box.

But for the ev-ng images, I can only find .iso images suitable for VMWARE.

https://www.eve-ng.net/index.php/download/#DL-COMM

Do the .iso images also work with VirtualBox?

An ISO is an ISO and it's not dedicated, but a number of sites recommend using a zip file that preconfigures Virtual Box for EVE-NG instead.

The "sensitive" step is for the virtual machine to recognize the corresponding operating system type, but this case is accounted for in Virtual Box.

The same goes for VMWare if for some reason your tutorial was "off the mark".

I answered you in detail and I got kicked out by the CCM robot for a reason that is "its own."

A search for "download and install eve-ng in virtualbox" brings you the answer for both VMWare and Virtual Box: it's better to go through an OVA image found zipped for download because it's preconfigured for EVE-NG than through an ISO that is not.
