Teamviewer

Solved

Hello

I downloaded the free version of TeamViewer in order to help someone with their move, since I won't be nearby anymore.

When I open TeamViewer, a window pops up asking me to enter a code. There are also fields to enter the ID and password.

When the person has also installed TeamViewer, how do I get authorized to help them remotely?

Where can I find the connection code? Otherwise, how do I use the ID and password?

Thank you very much
Aline

On each PC where Teamviewer has been installed, there is an ID and a password, usually displayed on the window when Teamviewer starts. You just need to ask your partner for the ID and password that will appear on their screen, which you will then enter into your Teamviewer.

Note that the ID will always be the same, but the password will be reset every time the PC is restarted.

    Hello ......

    It's simple

1► Download and install the free version ► From this link

2► The remote PC does the same

3► Launch TeamViewer (the remote PC must do the same) and make sure to pull the New interface button located at the top right to the left, as it is easier to manage in my opinion (see screenshot image below)

4► Enter the ID number of the remote PC that your partner communicated to you by email or phone ..... as well as their password ► Click on Connect

5► TeamViewer will ask for the password of the remote PC .... and once this is entered, you have control over the remote PC .....

    Cheers

      Good evening,
I don't have this image when I log in, but I suppose I need to "create a session."
Tomorrow morning, I'm going to the home of the person I need to help, and we'll do a test.
In any case, I really appreciate your responsiveness and the valuable assistance you all provide to those who encounter issues or have questions.
      Have a good evening.
      See you soon.

Re......If you have downloaded and installed the free version from the link provided above and you have pulled the New interface button to the left, you should have the same homepage as mine.

        Cheers

Okay, thank you very much for your responsiveness and the explanations.

I just have one last question: where will the person need to enter the login information?

On my side, I only have the option to enter a code. If the person has the same view and the same window on their side... how do they do it?

    Thanks again.

      Hello,

If you install the full version, Teamviewer has 2 functions, take control and allow control to be taken.

The remote person has an ID and a remote control code that they must provide to the caller, for example over the phone, which is not very practical, and the caller enters them into the remote control.

Additionally, Teamviewer has the unfortunate tendency to consider everyone to be a professional after a more or less random period of time: we get kicked out because we don't pay.

Several years ago, I was using AnyDesk where I didn't have this problem, and which, besides needing to be installed on the person receiving help as a service (automatically restarts with Windows), allowed for "silent access": once the first connection is established, there is no longer a need to request the ID and password of the helper.

Others advocate for no machine for the same reason.

      Thank you, Brucine.

I don't know which version I installed since it's the free one. And I don't know how to generate a code, and I also don't know where the person is supposed to insert my password and my username.

Maybe you have to pay to get that version?

I visited the link you sent me, thank you.

It is very clear. I will try it tomorrow with the person.

And I will install TeamViewer Remote just in case it's not the one I have.

The person I'm helping is totally lost. I'm assisting her with her processes. She is 85 years old. I need to find a solution quickly.

      Thanks again.

Quick Support only helps (which will not have the choice to connect or be connected) whereas Full also acts as a helper and Host ensures a connection without the intervention of the helped.

So I made a mistake and downloaded the version to help her.

I will install it on her computer.
Which version should I use to help her?

When I want to uninstall TeamViewer, I can't find it in my applications? For what reasons?
How can I delete it from downloads?

Sorry if I’m being "heavy" but it's the first time I will need to help someone remotely.

I haven't used it in years.

Quick Support is sufficient on the assisted workstation (but maybe not, I don't remember, for "silent" remote control, without the assisted person's intervention after the first connection, acting as a "service," restarting automatically with Windows).

If we want these features that are not provided (for the "service," it would be a shame if my action restarts the remote computer, leaving me locked out), you will need to install the Host or full version for the assisted person, but I assume you will have to set it up yourself in the only assisted situation, which means that someone must be physically present at the assisted device for the setup (and to adjust the firewall accordingly if needed).

On the assisting workstation, the Full version is generally required.

Remember that unless I'm mistaken, and contrary to my memory at least regarding AnyDesk, the free versions of TeamViewer do not allow file transfer between computers, which can be inconvenient; the various versions of VNC do allow it but have become paid and, unlike for example AnyDesk, may fail to bypass routers.

I'm also no longer sure, I don't think, that portable versions exist (without installation and thus simply can be deleted); otherwise, it must be uninstalled via the programs in the control panel.

For alternatives and if it seems more user-friendly to you:
-It seems that AnyDesk in the free version no longer allows unattended access:

      https://www.clubic.com/telecharger-fiche431427-anydesk.html

-NoMachine, which I have never used, is unclear on this point, but we can always try:

Thank you very much for your patience and the time you took to help me.
I will try to manage with all the information you gave me.
Tomorrow, I will meet the person in question to conduct a trial and set up both PCs (mine and theirs) so I can assist them remotely.
I just saw that Chrome also provided a way for remote help. I don’t know if it’s worth it.
In any case, thanks again and have a good evening.

Come back in case of problems, but remember that at least for the initial setup, there needs to be a "capable" person at "each end": entering codes, configuring the firewall if necessary, ideally set up once and for all in service without assistance so that after the first time, remote access is permanently available without intervention from the assisted person.

Windows has its own remote desktop, I don't know how good it is, and it is only available on the professional versions.

    Thank you jmarion3.
It's true that in the end it's not very complicated, but I didn't know about this software.
Thanks again and have a great weekend :-)

      Hello ....

You're right after all... however, we shouldn't overdo it (staying connected for hours......) because TeamViewer has the annoying habit of considering that we are using the application professionally, and it cuts off access to the remote computer...

      Cheers

Thank you for this significant information.

The person I am helping is 85 years old, so she won't spend hours on the PC.

It's just when she has an issue and if she has some tasks to do.

So I hope Teamviewer will be forgiving.

    Good evening
