Windows Update Error: Update failed 0x800f0805
Alan -
Hello,
I have an issue with Windows Update. An update is not installing and I have error code 0x800f0805.
I tried the procedure available on a YouTube channel, but without success.
I have screenshots with the "results" of these procedures.
If anyone can help me with this restoration process.
Thank you.

Hello,
By right-clicking on the Start button, use this command with Windows PowerShell (Admin)
CHKDSK /F C:
Reply Y for Yes to then restart Windows.
Then
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Then
sfc /scannow
Then check here: https://learn.microsoft.com/fr-fr/troubleshoot/windows-client/installing-updates-features-roles/additional-resources-for-windows-update#reset-windows-update-components-manually
If it's too complicated or doesn't work, you can perform a repair without losing data or applications.
To do a repair without losing data or an upgrade, use either the MediaCreationTool to download the Windows 10 ISO file. (For another PC)
Or you can download the Windows 11 ISO file directly if compatible.
You can check if it's compatible with WhyNotWin11
https://github.com/rcmaehl/WhyNotWin11/releases
Windows 10
https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows10/
Windows 11
https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows11
Once the ISO file is downloaded, open it with 7-Zip and extract everything into a new folder anywhere except directly on C:\
https://www.7-zip.org/download.html
Click on the setup.exe that is in the extracted folder.
For one of the updates, your WinRE partition is too small for this WinRE update.
It’s the last partition on the right next to your C: drive. If you download AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard, or Macrorit Partition Expert Free, or EaseUS Partition Master Free, or others...
To start, you should reduce the C: partition by 1GB (let's say) to increase the partition on the right by at least 1GB; less than 2GB will be sufficient.
Hello,
I don't know what you're talking about as I told you I know almost nothing about it.
And sorry for the response time, my PC has become so slow that I'm having a hard time using it (the updates keep wanting to install and they keep increasing in number).
Can you help me step by step with the procedure to follow?
I'm now almost certain that it's DELIBERATE on Microsoft's part, trying to force us to switch to Windows 11 by buying a new PC!
I hate this company :(
Can you capture the WhyNotWin11.exe found at this link
https://github.com/rcmaehl/WhyNotWin11/releases/tag/2.6.1.1
So we can see why it is not compatible with Windows 11
You can take a screenshot with Greenshot and upload it to Cjoint to give us the link afterwards?

If it's just an MBR disk issue with Boot Method: Legacy, it can be fixed.
But there are indeed things that become obsolete.
You can hide updates with wushowhide.diagcab
https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/wushowhide.html
Or you can completely block updates with StopUpdates10
https://greatis.com/stopupdates10/
You can reinstall Windows from scratch
Use the MediaCreationTool to download a Windows 10 ISO file (For another PC). For Windows 11, if compatible, it can be downloaded directly to create a USB drive of 8GB or more for upgrading, repairing, or installing Windows
Windows 10
https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows10/
Windows 11
https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/software-download/windows11
When you have the Windows ISO file, you can create a Bootable USB drive with Rufus
https://rufus.ie/fr/
If the PC is old, create the drive in MBR mode
If it is recent (Windows 8 or higher) in GPT mode > For Windows 11 GPT
Boot from it using the PC's Boot Menu key
You can search on Google "[Brand Model] Boot Menu Key"
Choose "Custom Installation" (Not upgrade)
No need to format if there is space, if there are data, they will be found in a Windows.old folder (Which will be automatically deleted after 10 days)
Install on the same partition, or alternatively, delete all system partitions and create a new one (Deletes data).
Hello Kori-Kori,
As I told fabul, other updates have been refusing to install since then. And the PC is increasingly experiencing bugs and slowdowns.
One of the other updates has finally encountered the same error code 0x800f0805 as the first.
For my Windows version:
Windows 10
Version 22h2 (operating system build 19045.4842)
(I was unable to post a screenshot)
Thank you

You should check with a partitioning software

Hello fabul and thank you for your response.
Sorry for the time it took me to reply, in the meantime I had an issue with my laptop's battery. I was getting error messages and had to remove it.
As for what you're asking me, I believe I have already done some of these manipulations. I will redo everything and come back with the results.
Thank you for your help, have a great day.
Hello,
It's been a while but I've had issues that prevented me from taking care of this problem.
I'm a novice in computer science and the things you're asking me, especially from
"If it's too complicated or doesn't work out" completely overwhelm me.
Since then, the problem persists (the same update is displayed but it's still impossible to download and install) and another identical update "22H.." refuses to install but doesn't show any error code.
?
Has Windows Update on Windows 10 ever offered you the Windows 11 update?
Or said that your PC is not compatible?
You need the Windows 10 ISO file if 11 is not compatible.
The Microsoft Media Creation Tool allows you to download an ISO file by selecting (For another PC).
Then, once downloaded, mount it in File Explorer or Open with > Windows Explorer
And click on setup.exe
Hello,
I received a message stating that my PC does not have the specifications to upgrade to Windows 11.
I did not understand the rest of your message. I don't know what an ISO file is, etc.
An ISO file is a "disk image" of an optical disc CD / DVD / Blu-ray.
In our case, that of Windows.
If Windows 11 is not compatible, you can use Windows 10 instead.
And keep it for the future, so you don't have to search for it and download it again.
It can be used to burn a DVD-R DL (Dual Layer)
To create a bootable USB drive with Rufus or Ventoy or others...
To install or repair Windows from scratch.
