good evening,
for several days I have been receiving emails but I cannot send any because the connection to the SMTP server is blocked on my computer (Windows 11)
I am using Thunderbird and my provider is Bouygues Telecom
thank you in advance if you can help me

Good evening Brucine,
while trying to search this morning I saw that the port was no longer 587 but 465
so I corrected it
I also saw that smtp.bbox.fr was no longer secure, I corrected that
the message received is: "the message sending failed because the connection to the outgoing smtp server failed. check the smtp server settings"
however, when I go into those settings, there is a field that is not filled in: description
but the corrections I made this morning have remained
kind regards

Normally not, port 465 is historical and in principle replaced by port 587.
They both require security unlike port 25, but it is different: STARTTLS for 587 and SSL/TLS for 465.
You need to ensure that the security mode is consistent with the chosen port.
I no longer use Thunderbird, the username is usually the bbox email address.

thank you brucine
the security was on SSL/TLS despite my change this morning
I followed the link you sent me but I still seem to have an error even though it's improving: I no longer get the error message, the message seems to go out but it doesn't go all the way... I tried writing smtp in lowercase or uppercase, it doesn't change anything
however, the description field is also empty on the template found in the link
authentication method: I have "normal password" but I can't enter my password there, it's not provided for
best regards

Hello
-the small screen displayed on this site does not correspond to Thunderbird
-the description is optional
-all in lowercase for the parameters
-the password is requested when using the messaging service, if the correct password is not known and saved by Thunderbird
https://www.getmailbird.com/setup/fr/access-bbox-fr-via-imap-smtp
https://www.assistance.bouyguestelecom.fr/s/article/logiciel-messagerie-emails-bbox
thanks Redbart
the small screen presented on the site given by Brucine is the same as the one I have on my computer
the incoming server works very well and on my android phone too but the outgoing server is blocked. to open incoming messages I enter my bbox password which is well recognized by bbox
it's just the SMTP server
everything crashed all of a sudden on my computer last week...maybe following an update?
Best regards

Thunderbird saves passwords if we allow it, which is really convenient.
We would like to see the settings you entered.
The screenshot tool allows you to crop a section of the screen, anonymize it, add annotations, and then post it on CCM after a local save.

Hello,
In any case, if, like in his thread from last year, the author continues to use an Orange address while the Box operator has become Bouygues, that's "normal".
If that's the case, we can try to replace the Bouygues SMTP with the one from Orange for this address, but the process tends to stop working.
