TPM 2.0 compatibility

Hello,

I have a quick question; I would like to know if my motherboard is compatible with TPM 2.0?

It's an Asus ROG MAXIMUS VII RANGER. The technical specifications mention that it has a TPM connector. So I assume it doesn't have TPM, but I could add a module to it, right?

I don't have the "PCH-FW Configuration" line in the advanced settings in the BIOS.

Thanks!

Hello

If it has a connector, the TPM should not be present. But I'm not sure there are many people installing a TPM module in this case. We can use Windows with TPM disabled, so...

Generally, they install Windows 10 which should have a minimum lifespan until 2025; after that, no more security updates unless under special conditions for a fee, a contract like companies do. It will continue to function if it's present on the PC, but it will become increasingly difficult for all programs, increasingly obsolete the PC.

For Windows 11, so installation without TPM exists, but you have to "get your hands dirty" a bit more, they say, workaround during installation, sometimes especially for updates it gets stuck a bit, and it keeps you busy.

Here too, Microsoft is increasingly planning "software" in the form of annual leasing, regardless of whether it's Windows 10 or 11.

Microsoft has made a tool; yes, it's easier if you are already on Windows on this board, you'll know if you can install Windows 11 with the normal method with TPM or if you need to choose "the workaround installation". To start. Read this first tutorial:

Wow, thank you very much for your response. In fact, I was already able to install Windows 11, but the reason I'm trying to get this specific point to work is because of Riot Games. More and more games only run on Windows 11, and if they keep adding increasingly restrictive requirements, I’m going to be completely stuck soon.

So in conclusion, it's over for League of Legends on my end, thanks for your very thorough response!

Hi,

Old architecture if I'm not mistaken, so only Windows 11 in compatibility mode is possible.
