Hello, for several weeks now my PC has been crashing at different intervals. In the event log, I spot this error:
The application \Device\HarddiskVolume5\Windows\System32\dwm.exe with process ID 1828 stopped the removal or ejecting for the device USB\VID_1532&PID_007C&MI_03\6&14b7adf8&0&0003. Process command line: "dwm.exe" List of affected devices: HID\VID_1532&PID_007C&MI_03\7&1b32205d&0&0000.
Any idea on how to fix this?

      Hello,

This is about the Windows display manager crashing, which, apart from a Windows corruption, seems to be related to a USB device.

There is no reason for Windows to access it if it is disconnected: I would start by disconnecting USB devices (thumb drives, disks...) in search of the faulty one that is causing Windows to crash just by its attempt to display/explore.

      Hello,

I also lean towards a faulty device.

It's not one of the fixed disks anyway; for the one that is USB, its physical state does not predict whether it will crash or not depending on what it contains (system disk or where Windows system folders have been moved?) and what Windows might try to access.

It could also be another USB device; I still say that, before possibly reinstalling, it is necessary to disconnect them one by one to try to find the culprit.

The culprit in question, whether hardware or software by default, will anyway be identified by Diskpart, which will tell us who HarddiskVolume5 is.

    Hello,

To my knowledge, the only solution... is to reinstall Windows. You don't specify which version of Windows.
