Loss of signal after 20 m cabling.

Hello,

We got fiber a few days ago, and at the output of the box, it's 400 Mb, which is not extraordinary but is sufficient for us.

We ran 20 meters of shielded RJ45 cable 6 (10Gb) in the attic, connected an RJ45 wire from the box to the outlet, and 20 meters later the speed is 90 instead of 400.

We can't understand where the problem is?? Does the accumulation of cable reduce the speed??

Does anyone have an explanation?

Thanks in advance

    Hello,

No, it is not the connection of multiple cables or cords that should reduce the speed.

It is likely that a poorly wired socket is reducing the speed from gigabit to 100Mb/s. Gigabit uses all 8 wires of the cable; if there is a single bad connection on one of the wires in a socket, it switches to a connection using only 4 wires, limiting it to 100Mb/s.

      Hello jee pee

The limit of 90 Mb/s makes me think like you do.

    Hello,

by the way, the PC should show it in its connection speed ...

You need to start by redoing the wiring of the outlets and take that into account.

Check if the cable in the attic is properly single-stranded.

Also check that no wires are cut too long and touching the metal casing of the female RJ45 connectors.

According to the standard, a cable between two wall sockets can be up to 90 m plus 2 cords of 5 m at each end.

And there you go, there it is ....

But goodness, the line spacing is so annoying!!
