Hello,
When you put stuff in the trash in WhatsApp.
Does the trash take up memory space?
Can we empty the trash?
Where can I find the trash on a Samsung A51?
Thank you for the clarity.

Hello,
From what I understand, there is no trash bin on WhatsApp. This means:
- that there is no space dedicated to this possible trash bin
- that it is not easy to restore deleted messages.

What is well conceived is expressed clearly,
And the words to say it come easily.

Hello mariam-j :-)

Yes
Can we empty the trash?
It seems that yes.
You can empty the trash in WhatsApp to free up space. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open WhatsApp on your Samsung A51 device.
- Go to the chat screen where the messages you want to permanently delete are located.
- Press and hold the message you want to delete or select multiple messages if necessary.
- At the top of the screen, you will see a trash can icon or a "Delete" option (the icon may vary slightly depending on the version of WhatsApp or your phone's settings). Tap on it.
- WhatsApp will ask you to confirm the deletion. Confirm by tapping "Delete" or "Empty".
This will permanently delete the selected messages and free up memory space taken by the trash.
As for the trash on the A51, I imagine we were talking about the app in question?
It may vary depending on the Android version as well, but generally, the info is above.
Best regards
Thank you Pierr10 for this very interesting information.
I will promptly disable the automatic backup; you have to know what you want, and when you delete, it's not to recover what you have deleted.
My phone will thank me for relieving its memory.
Normally, backups are done in Google Drive. They allow for WhatsApp to be restored exactly as it was in case of a phone change.
Do not confuse it with the data stored on the smartphone:
The location is not always the same. For me, it's in
Android \Media\com.whatsapp\WhatsApp\Media
This data stored on the smartphone can take up quite a lot of space!
You can also access it directly from the WhatsApp settings: it's found under: Settings > Storage and data > Manage storage.
