How to disable OneDrive?

Hello everyone,

On my mobile phone (Samsung S20FE), when I take photos, they automatically sync with my OneDrive, and as a result, all my photos appear doubled in my gallery.

I tried to disable it, but it doesn’t seem to work. I tried to delete the duplicates, but the error message telling me that it’s permanent and that it can delete the photos on my phone scares me, so I’m not proceeding.

How can I make sure that OneDrive is not active? And how can I ensure that the duplicate photos that remain do not delete the original photos as well?

Thank you for your help, I am available for any additional information.

Hello,

Check that you haven't synchronized the Samsung backup with OneDrive: https://www.samsung.com/fr/apps/samsung-cloud/

That was it. And as a result, it removed the duplicates.

I'm updating the topic title to "resolved". I’ll keep the link just in case something still isn't right.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hello,

On the smartphone, go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Account management.
Click on Account management.

In the list, find the Microsoft address (for example, hotmail.com) that is associated with OneDrive: blue icon and OneDrive is written below the address.
Click on it.

On the next page, you will find Media file selector with a switch; turn it off. You should see Sync disabled.

Backups never delete original photos. So you have nothing to worry about. You can delete what has been backed up in OneDrive, but it is not mandatory.

Hello Pierr10, and thank you for your response.

Following your guide, at the beginning it's all quite similar, but after Account Management, it differs. I have no account linked to OneDrive, perhaps because I previously disabled (?) it as mentioned in my main message. The only Hotmail account I see is linked to an application that connects my PC to my phone.

So no blue One Drive icon, but I do have Automatically sync data. Is this what you meant by "you find File Selector"? Here’s what I see: https://i.goopics.net/v45iii.jpg

By unchecking this option, it indicates this: https://i.goopics.net/16qf5r.jpg I think this is what you were talking about. So I just need to uncheck it and OneDrive would be completely disabled? If so, will the duplicate photos go away by themselves or will I have to do it manually?

Thank you for your help.

Hello Panth33ra, and thank you for your link. If I read correctly, it indicates how to disable OneDrive on a computer, but I was asking about on a phone. I had already managed to do this on PC, but on the phone, even though I disabled it, it still continues.

I don't understand how you can have synchronization with OneDrive without an associated account.

I'll take another look at this tomorrow.

(I made your links clickable. It's easier to use.)

Yes, it's strange. In the apps, OD is clearly indicated as disabled. I notice that the most recent photos on OD are from the end of December 2023, so there's nothing from 2024 doubled. Maybe at that moment I had disabled OD.

But at that time, when transferring photos from my computer (on the hard drive) to my phone (SD card), I noticed that some were automatically synchronized to the cloud, creating duplicates. On one side it's in /SD Card/DCIM/Camera, and on the other in /OneDrive/SamsungGallery/DCIM/Camera.

I have downloaded all my videos and photos from OneDrive. I didn't put them there, I don't use the cloud; it synced against my wishes. Normally, I already have all these files on my external hard drive, but just in case I retrieved them before continuing the process with you, and possibly deleting them from OD, to see how it reacts in the future.

Thank you for restoring the links. When I posted, they were there, but the message layout was messy. So I edited the message, added line breaks, and validated, but the links disappeared...
