How to connect a standalone DVD player to a laptop

Hello,

My laptop does not have a CD/DVD drive.
I have a Thomson THD300 standalone DVD player.

How can I read and save the content of CDs on my PC?
I connected the DVD player to the PC via USB, but the DVD player does not seem to be recognized by the PC. Any ideas?
