Connecting a DVD player

Hello, I'm trying to connect a DVD player with a new HDMI cable to an Essential B TV, but I'm not able to do it. I get a message saying "no signal." Can anyone help me?

"no signal"

Have you correctly selected the appropriate HDMI source connected to the DVD player on your remote control?

"no signal"

Is the DVD player turned on (and not on standby…)?
