How to type without modifying the dotted lines in Word?

I received an assignment to complete during the holidays, possibly on the computer from my teacher, and I need to write on the dotted lines. I'm not sure how to make sure the dotted lines don't take up all the space afterward. Should I just delete the ones that are too many?
For example:
Question? Answer: ..........
becomes
Question? Answer: ..Answer........

Hello,
The quickest solution would be to select and copy the dotted area by double-clicking and then request a find/replace for those dots with a space.
Since double-clicking does not select all the dots:
- make this selection manually
- copy
- find/replace with a space for all occurrences of dots
All that will be left is to fill in the areas following the Question/Answer expression:
Of course, be sure to only make these changes on a copy of the original document to avoid having to reconstruct it in case of writing errors.
There are undoubtedly other methods, but this is the one that comes to mind.
Hello, thank you, goodbye, please, are useful, essential phrases, every day, even on a forum
By default, Word is in Insert mode. Typed text pushes the text that is beyond the cursor. There is an Overwrite mode that replaces the already present characters. You switch from Insert mode to Overwrite mode and vice versa with the Insert key. In recent versions of Word, this feature is disabled; go to Options/Advanced Options and check Use the Insert key and Use Overwrite mode.
That’s how to rewrite on the dotted lines. But you could simply delete them instead ;-)
Good evening,
If I were a teacher, I wouldn't impose such things that can't be done this way with Word!
The teacher gave you a document to fill out by hand... If it was meant to be filled out with Word, she would have done it, or should have done it, correctly!
