Strange messages from 06 numbers are texting me

Hello,

Usually, I manage well and can solve my problems more or less on my own. But now, something quite strange is happening to me.

Since 8:46 this morning, I've been receiving regular texts from a 06 number. However, the most confusing part is the content of these messages. They don't exactly contain a scam. I've received "Hey, who is this?", "?", "Who?", "Hello, what's this for?", "Who is it?". Starting from 10:22, the messages change a bit: "You can leave the package under the shelter, thank you" and "Sir.. thank you, you should put the package behind the gate... delivery to 88 chemin des fosses à terre bretteville... have a nice day". The latest one was "Yes, it's good, that's well noted, what does it mean?" (I received this one twice from the same number). The numbers I've copied from the messages are always 06 and change each time. Two of the numbers that left me messages also called me, I didn't answer.

I can't understand where this is coming from, why it's so sudden, or what these people want. What should I do?

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

What do you receive them on..? A smartphone..? A landline..? Internet on a PC..?

Are they coming from France... or elsewhere..?

In my opinion, it's someone who is doing tests... like being able to call anonymously, or for free... or they found a "trick"

But I can't tell you what to do..

Hello,

I receive them on my smartphone, my personal number. It's a number that I share and use sparingly, precisely to avoid this kind of thing.

All the numbers are French 06 numbers. Some conversations are encrypted with RCS, while others are not.

Hello,

They do not technically contain a scam.

What do you know, the scam may be yet to come.

The fraudulent harassment is carried out by bots, which therefore do not get tired and change their number as many times as necessary for the same target.

It’s useless to try to find out where it comes from since it can originate from servers located abroad that do not care about your protests. Even less about threats or strong responses.

As for why "me?", it is in the nature of hackers to retrieve addresses from your careless or poorly protected correspondents.

There is no solution, other than regularly blocking unknown numbers.

Hello,

"What do you know, the scam may be coming."

I completely agree with you, that's why I specified "strictly speaking," I was expressing myself about the content of the messages received.

As for the harassment and robots, I unfortunately know that my will won't change anything. I mainly want to share what’s happening to me, in case someone might have a lead.

I thought about it, and you pointed it out: there will probably be nothing to do but block.

Hello,

Aside from the wrongdoers, there are also innocents who dial the wrong number and insist heavily and regularly, even insulting you, asking when you answer to speak to someone you have never heard of, even when you explain it to them.

Good evening everyone,

I'm sorry for my late response. I've understood the end of this story, and I would like to share it with you. If this helps even one person in the future, then my message will have been useful.

I fell victim to spoofing. To put it simply, it is possible to make calls or send texts while masking one's number with someone else's (yes, it surprised me too when I discovered it...). Scammers used my number to hide theirs. However, when people want to respond to the scams they received with my number, it's me who receives their messages of confusion, insults, or sometimes even distress.

When I understood this, I also realized that there wasn't much I could do. I first decided to wait two weeks to see if it would stop. The messages kept coming, and I began receiving threats of legal action against me.

A little before the end of the period I had allowed myself, my number was blocked by Bouygues, which noted an excessive number of received texts/calls (and as a bonus: I could no longer use mobile data). To reactivate my number, I had only one option: to sign a document stating that I am responsible for the abuse noted on my line and that I commit to not doing it again. I did not sign this document, which would have legally made me guilty if a complaint had actually been filed, and I tried to contact Bouygues.

After dozens of attempts, I managed to speak with a representative from their company. We talked for nearly 20 minutes. During the first half of the call, I tried to make her understand my problem (which she ultimately never did). She tried to make me feel guilty and hold me responsible for my situation by explaining that my phone had been infected by a virus, and in passing recommended an antivirus offered by Bouygues.

I then canceled my subscription with them and changed my number. I'm now with SFR, and so far everything is good (although to be completely frank, I think the situation would have unfolded pretty much the same way with them). With this new number, I no longer receive anything via SMS or calls, proving that my phone was not infected by anything.
