    Hello,

It would be helpful if you could specify which version of Windows ... 10, 11? Other?

This would allow us to move your question to the most appropriate subforum... in order to optimize your chances of getting useful answers, especially since the most "knowledgeable" people in each field do not necessarily read the topics posted in a different category (in this case, "IT and Design" is not the most suitable...)

No worries, and no problem for the remark... A contributor who happened to be around took care of the move.

      Hello,

As the brief description suggests, the problem is not due to the system32 folder being missing, but rather that the computer cannot boot from the hard drive (probably because of a damaged boot sector or a damaged hard drive) and starts in DOS mode on the recovery console (hence the letter X).

We can try to restore using rstrui if a restore point exists; otherwise, we need to repair or reinstall from an external installation media.

It's actually txiki's comment that I commented on: I have nothing against yours, restoration is the simplest solution if it works and is recent.

    Hello,

Type rstrui and validate by pressing enter.

In the window that opens, check if you have a dot before the issue
