Excel spreadsheet to a timeline

Hello dear committee,

I want to follow up on the courses in an institution, it is a dated and colored timeline:

A completed subject should be in green in the box corresponding to its date, a postponed subject should also be in the timeline in the box corresponding to its date but in red. (The box also shows the duration of the session (1.5h or 2h.))

The filling of the timeline must be automatically linked to a table located in another workbook (1) that I must fill out first.

Is it possible?? Thank you.

Hello!

Yes, it is possible to create a timeline as you described in Excel.

1. Create a reference table in the workbook (1). For example, "Subject", "Date", and "Duration".

2. Use the "Conditional" function to automatically color the cells based on the status of the subject ("Completed" = green, "Postponed" = red).

3. In the workbook where the timeline is located, link the cells to those in the reference table using the CELL.LINK function.

4. To display the duration on the timeline, you can use the CONCATENATE function to combine the duration with the subject name in the same cell.

5. Make sure to update the links between the two workbooks each time you modify the reference table using the "Update Links" function in Excel.

It's a bit complex and requires a good understanding of Excel, but it's doable.
