MS MONEY 2002 won't open anymore for a few days.

Hello,
I've been using MS Money for nearly 20 years, and I've installed it on my successive PCs: Win 95, Win XP, Win 7, and Win 10. This is the 2002 version.
It worked without any issues on Win 10 until today.
It no longer launches. I last used it on October 5, 2023.
During an attempt to launch, the hourglass appears for a few seconds, then nothing.
After restarting the PC, it's the same.
After some research, it seems that it needs Internet Explorer. However, Internet Explorer has disappeared. When I try to launch IE, Edge opens instead.
I attempted to install IE6, IE7, and IE8, but the installation was rejected: Not supported by Win 10.
For your information, my laptop is not eligible for Win 11, and I do not wish to upgrade it. My PC has already been significantly slowed down since the latest Microsoft updates.
Is this a known issue?
What can I do?

Hello......
As you know, MsMoney hasn't been updated in ages and is encountering issues with Microsoft's updates...
The best solution to try to resolve the problem you are facing is to perform a clean and complete uninstallation of MsMoney by following the instructions step by step at ► This link
Once the uninstallation is complete ► Restart the PC, then reinstall MsMoney 2005 from ► This link
Then launch MsMoney from the last valid backup
See you for the result obtained
Cheers
I just followed this procedure.
Same as before: Money 2005 won't launch.
Could it be because Microsoft disabled Internet Explorer during a recent update?
Thank you for the feedback......
It's more "serious" then because normally everything gets back to normal by doing as indicated above...!
You have no messages..... What happens when you try to launch MsMoney?
Do you have the option to perform a system restore to a date when MsMoney was launching normally?
See you+
When I launch Money, the hourglass spins for 2 or 3 seconds and then disappears. Nothing else happens. No message.
Without certainty, it seems to me that there was a Windows update shortly after my last use of Money. An update that I had been delaying for some time. Tired of buggy updates, I suspended updates for 1 month, as we can do in the settings.
As I mentioned above, it seems that this last Microsoft update has rendered IE inoperative but hasn't removed the executable. Except that this exe now launches Edge. That might be why Money doesn't display an error message. IE seems to be present but is no more. A decoy, in a way!
As for the restore point, I had already tried to find one in other circumstances and ... nothing. If it is indeed the Microsoft update that caused the mess, I don't think going back is possible. I'll take a look anyway.
No, no restore point. At least, I didn't find one. However, I saw this:
Hello,
On IE, you obviously cannot install 6, 7, 8 on Windows 10 and not even 11, which was integrated and that Microsoft recently killed; it only works in Edge's compatibility mode for IE now. I don't know if that is enough to launch Money, and it might depend on the version.
I use 2001, which also only offers IE for connection, but which I do not use; I download the statements from my banks' websites in ofx format, which Money opens and updates as soon as I click on these downloaded files, but perhaps precisely because I forced Money not to connect to the Internet on startup:
Hello jope004...
Thanks for the reply..
It's a pity that you can't perform a system restore ... but well, we'll make do!
The issue may be coming from the last backup of MsMoney, and as a result, it no longer launches from that one....
Here’s what I would personally do to check if MsMoney is actually functioning ► I would cleanly uninstall everything following the same procedure as above
Then ► Reinstall MsMoney ► Create an account ► Enter 2 or 3 transactions and see if MsMoney launches correctly ... if so, I think it’s indeed its last backup that is causing the problem in my opinion
See you+
Best
Hello,
Thank you for these answers. The problem is that Money won't launch at all. So there’s no way to set it up or create an account.
For your information, to get it working, I installed Money on an old notebook running XP and it works very well. The last backup is therefore fine.
I think we need to work around the fact that IE no longer exists, but how? I'm going to dig through the Money files to see if there's any possibility on that side.
Hello.....
I think you haven't done what I advised you to do... namely, completely and cleanly uninstall the MsMoney you installed, then reinstall it, create an account with 2 or 3 transactions and see if MsMoney works...(Don't try to relaunch it with your personal backup but with that of the new installed MsMoney and its new backup)
To uninstall it, you don't need it to launch.....
IE has nothing to do with the fact that MsMoney is not working
See you later
Yet I have written it several times: money does not start. There is no "Money" window. A double click on the icon causes a spinning hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing: no window, no error message.
It is therefore not possible to create an account since it has not started.
I have properly uninstalled it with Revo each time.
A final attempt to find a compatibility mode gives:
There's no need to add -1s... it doesn't do much good!
MsMoney has always worked from XP to W11 and there's no reason it should stop working overnight after doing what's been recommended above.
My ultimate solution ► Repairing Windows 10 without losing data (Documents & Applications) should resolve the issue in this case since you can use it on an old PC.
As for me, I have no other solutions!
Check out the CCM archives to see if you find a case similar to yours ► Here ► (For example...)
Cheers
Hello,
I had uninstalled Money 2002 in order to install Money 2005 for the umpteenth time.
The uninstallation with REVO did not go well. REVO stopped before reaching the cleaning scan.
Then there were new Microsoft updates.
After that, I tried to install Money 2005 over the uncleaned system. The installation was successful and Money 2005 is working properly.
The only downside is that the Money 2002 file is not compatible with Money 2005. A conversion was successfully done, but I probably cannot reopen it with Money 2002, which is installed on my other PCs with XP.
I therefore need to install Money 2005 on my other PCs as well. It should go smoothly.
Money 2005 seemed to work normally, but it crashed after I added a transaction to an account.
So I uninstalled it and immediately reinstalled Money 2002.
For now, the latter is working fine.
What a waste of time!
