Hello,
I have been using Subtitler Workshop for years and I just encountered a problem that I can't resolve.
I am subtitling a film in French with English subtitles. When I reached the 78th minute, while I was trying to go back to the previous subtitle, it sent me to the middle of the film. When I finally managed to return, I noticed that the sound was completely out of sync with the lip movements.
I would like to point out that the synchronization of the English copy remained unaffected.
Thank you for considering my request.
Sincerely,
bannon

Hello,
these audio lag issues are not easy to resolve, especially since you are tinkering with the file...
So, in the end, do you have two subtitle languages on this video..?
The latest version is from 30-12-22, are you working with the same version "for years"..? Is it the same PC..? The same version of Windows..?
I assume you are well-versed in this subtitling software; the problem probably lies elsewhere...
From what I know, audio lags often come from the video encoding system, which we don't know here... We also need to know what the source of this video is... is it a downloaded file... from YouTube or something else, a TV recording... on PC.. hard drive.. USB stick... are you re-encoding this video to integrate this second audio track... what encoding... Which software..?
To find out more, we need to check the "Media info" file of this video.

Right-click on the video file==>Mediainfo==>view==>text... and paste all this text here...
Hello Jeannets
Thank you for your prompt response.
This English video includes several languages except French. I opted for the English version.
I did not do any encoding; I transferred the DVD to my computer, and since the file was already in AVI, I was able to start working without going through another conversion software. However, the original file that plays does not have this anomaly; only the file I am subtitling does, and only from the halfway point of the movie.
It seems that the workshop software is indeed the source of the problem, but exclusively with this film, as I started another subtitling project and everything is fine.
What I'm looking for now is a way to re-sync the audio.
Thank you again
Sincerely
Bannon
You don't give clear answers to my questions..! for example, the source of the video... and a DVD is not in AVI..
AVI is not an encoder, it's a container... and it can very well be encoded in H264 for example, and the reading of mediainfo is not there to testify to this..??
To synchronize multi audio/subtitled with the image, in principle, you need to separate each file; so one video and several audios, modify them individually... then recreate a new file that contains the Video, all Audio languages and all subtitles... it's not trivial... and in case of an error or retouch, you have to start over...
Hello,
First of all, I thank you for your kindness and your help.
I am not very familiar with technical terms in computing (age), and due to my lack of understanding of their meaning, I can only give you the symptoms of the malfunction.
As I mentioned, the source is a region 2 DVD exported from England. The copy I made from this source is impeccable, it has no problems.
But from there, when I want to transfer the film to software to work on it, the delay starts from the 32nd minute and increases.
I took a while to reply because I discovered that VLC, which I use very little, has a function to re-synchronize the audio/video. I used it last night, but to no avail. As soon as I transfer from the good copy, the problem comes back. I adjust the audio/video, but the re-synchronized copy does not show the correction.
I don’t re-encode videos; it has worked very well for the past 8 years that I've been doing this kind of work.
Sincerely
OK, so the English DVD was already a capture or encoding... It wasn't a commercial DVD encoded like a DVD... the AVI is already a "ripping"... so it's very likely that your problem comes from there... your initial file was already tainted.
How do you play these videos... on a PC, what model, on your TV, with a standalone player...? with which application... VLC for example is a classic in this genre... it allows synchronization, but doesn't record it...
Is your audio out of sync, is it ahead or behind the image..?
Does this delay also exist on your other videos that you have Anglicized..?? or is it just that one..??
-- You might have other applications running in the background on your PC... You should close all that before working on your video activities...
Is your audio in Stereo or 5.1 for example, or how many tracks..?
-- You have probably installed other programs on this PC since your last video activity... and everything is no longer the same..?
No, my DVD was a commercial DVD.
The copy I made to work on it, converted to AVI, has no anomalies. It's when I transfer this copy to software (VLC, Workshop...) that the result shows a lag that increases as the film progresses.
I watch my videos on my PC when I subtitle them and on my projector. In this case, I read it on my PC and I tried it on the projector, but the anomaly is there too.
When I'm working on my PC, I have no other applications running except the ones I need for this work.
I operate in 5.1. I haven't installed any other applications for a long time, except for updates. I mention this because after an update of ConvertX, this software is causing me problems with subtitles (impossible to write boeuf or oeuf with the E in the O, it produces a hieroglyph and in "va t'en" it gives me "va-tien").
There you go, I hope I have answered correctly to what you asked me, but of course, I remain at your disposal for any other information that might help resolve the issue.
Best regards
I tried last night to solve the problem with VLC, in vain. I align the synchronization correctly, but the copy that comes out has the anomaly as if VLC did not take the adjustment into account.
The audio is delayed compared to the image. The lips move before the sound is heard.
This is the first time this has happened. I started another film, this time from a copy, with a Portuguese file. I skimmed through the film a bit, and apparently the synchronization is perfect.
Given what you’re saying, I believe the incident only concerns this one and that there’s no problem with your other videos. It’s a matter of "Codec."
You haven’t necessarily loaded other applications… But it’s quite possible that they launch simultaneously at Windows startup; and you don’t see anything...?
It's a possibility, but then it would also concern the movie I just started, and that is not the case.
That other applications launch is possible, but again, the problem would also be reported with the other movie.
Now that I've tried everything, it leaves either the codecs, but I've had two applications downloaded for years, or the movie itself. I now remember that this DVD was too protected for shrink. So I downloaded another software whose name I don't remember and that I didn't keep, to get around the block. Is this software the cause??
I took the opportunity to duplicate another movie that I had for a long time and that shrink could not bypass the security, I will check. If this one has the same anomaly, it is almost certain that the software in question is the cause.
Thank you again, and I will inform you after checking the other one.
Best regards
I just quickly watched the DVD that I made with this software at the same time as the one that is giving us trouble. It's not that one; it has perfect synchronization.
Too bad we could have had a lead. For now, we remain (provisionally?) without an explanation.
Best regards
Let's say that without technical information, it's not possible... especially if he's the only one doing this.
We can't make reasoning by reciprocity on a subject that doesn't work normally... it might be true for a system that works, but not otherwise.
Your audio insertion software (subtles workshop) or subtitles certainly performs a complete encoding of the DVD or video file... and that's where it happens.
I'm not so sure that it's the workshop software.
I retrieved the first copy I made from the DVD, which is flawless, and I sent it to VLC to view it. And there too, the problem appeared.
Thank you very much for the efforts you've made.
If you have any ideas, please let me know.
Best regards
It works.
