How to manage drop shadows in InDesign

Hello,

I am trying to print a PDF generated from an InDesign document containing drop shadows on cut-out objects in Photoshop. There are no color or resolution issues with the objects; however, when I perform a pre-press check, it indicates that there is an object under 300ppi wherever there is a drop shadow. This is likely a transparency flattening issue, but I can't find the solution.

    What version is the PDF?

    You can find the information in Acrobat under the "File/Document Properties" menu and in the "Description" tab.

    This is a PDF Acrobat 7 (1.6) X-4 2010 standard that is supposed to flatten transparency during export, but when I do the pre-press check in Acrobat, it indicates the use of transparency. Is this a problem for printing even if everything is in 300dpi?

    Strange because a drop shadow created in InDesign is not pixelated (flattening) if your PDF is of version higher than 1.4... so in 1.6 it shouldn't be a problem...
    Perhaps it's your images from Photoshop that are not at the correct resolution.
    Check your PDF export settings. (It is possible to resample images during export.)
