How to open a Key4.db file

Hello,

I have lost all my saved credentials on Thunderbird.

https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-37795178-aucun-identifiant-trouve-tous-mes-identifiants-ont-disparu

However, I can still log in to some sites: Facebook, Leboncoin, eBay. So my credentials, or at least some of them, are still on my computer.

It seems they might be in the key4.db file, but how can I open this file on Linux?

Good evening to everyone, and thank you in advance to those who could help me.

Bernard

    Hello,

We've had this discussion before, in which you should have continued.

key4.db does not contain identifiers, only their encryption key; it's logins.json that contains them.

I believe your approach is futile, since as explained earlier, you just need to create a new profile and replace these original files with the recovery ones to see the identifiers appear in plain text:

If they existed, you would have already found them, but if you want to have some fun:

    Hello,

I would add that to avoid this kind of mishap, it's important to regularly back up your passwords. To this end, Firefox has a feature to export saved logins as a .csv file.

      Hello,

I don't even bother with that: the Firefox profile is where it should be in the system partition and not in my data partition, but I've added this folder to the daily scheduled backup script of the data partition to an external drive.
