Hello, my cat spilled my coffee on my laptop charger. I left it to dry all night, and I'm wondering if it could be dangerous in any way to plug this charger into my laptop. Could it be harmful to my computer, for example, cause a short circuit?
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
It's rare to see an IP rating (Ingress Protection) marked on a laptop's power supply.
However, it is not the laptop that could pay the consequences but rather the power supply itself.
Generally, power supplies are quite well sealed, even molded.
What is the model number of your power supply (and the model of your laptop)?

To start, thank you very much for your response.
My PC is a Lenovo Yoga Slim Pro 7 and my charger is a Lenovo 65W, and it’s the "USB" (flat) end that was affected as it was submerged in a puddle of coffee.
So if I understand correctly, there’s no danger for my computer if I want to test whether the cable still works.
Thank you again.
It is possible that the contacts may have oxidized, but I don't believe that's very likely. At worst, there will be no charging! But to say it's dangerous for your PC: NO - try connecting it to an auxiliary USB-C device such as:
- headlamp
- phone
- mouse
- game controller
etc... anything that is USB-C
Great, I hadn’t thought of that at all! I’m reaching out to you one last time; the underside of my computer has also been affected (coffee has seeped under the computer through the small holes and not from above). However, my computer still displays the battery percentage on the home screen (the percentage even shows up when the computer is off, triggered by the screen). My question is the following: should I take the risk of turning on the computer or could this be dangerous for the system?
Is there a slight gap between the table and the PC? (2-3mm)?
Did the coffee rise through the "grilles" or not?
If it only touched the casing without rising by capillarity, there’s no reason the system would be affected!
I see it still has "pads"
When the coffee spilled, was it on?
Personally, I would put it on the charger and turn it on - but that's just my opinion - and doing that from a distance!! not easy.
Hello again
I preferred not to touch anything for a few days (especially not to turn on the computer) and following your advice, I used the charger on another "USB C" socket and it worked, so I tried plugging it into the PC and miracle, the PC turned on and charges normally. I used my computer for a few minutes, I am still a bit afraid that it will "crash" but I tell myself that if it had been damaged, it wouldn't have turned back on.
I want to thank you for your advice, it’s complicated to find someone who knows about this without going through a repair shop.
If it can help others: I left my charger in rice for 3 days and it worked!!
Thanks again Jean for the time you gave me.
Best regards, Sarra
