Hello everyone

On Windows 10, when I type in run: devmgmt.msc in run to open the device manager, I get a no entry sign, so it doesn't work...

Can anyone advise me?

Thank you

Good evening.

Does it work in: Control Panel, Device Manager?

Hello,

Is it accessible through other means, for example the control panel?

The first thought that comes to mind aside from a Windows bug is the absence of administrator rights or a local policy set up for this purpose.

See for example here (in English): https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-device-manager-unresponsive-fix/

Thank you ;)

I can't find the control panel, neither in settings nor in system...

Does it have another name?

This PC doesn't belong to me, it's my goddaughter's, and she's asking me to check if she has Bluetooth.

For that, I need to access the device manager.

Regarding permissions, when I ask her for her password, she tells me she has only one, the one that allows her to open her PC.

Does she need another one?

If so, what is the procedure?

A right-click in the Start menu (at the bottom left) will display Device Manager in a list.

The Control Panel is located at Start Menu-Programs-Windows System or alternatively always in the run area by typing control panel.

We can also check if there is a Bluetooth adapter and if it is enabled via the network icon in the taskbar, network settings, change adapter.

We can check the Bluetooth environment in Settings-devices (where we may see nearby devices if Bluetooth exists and is enabled); a more basic way is, of course, to take note of the PC's references and search online for its specifications (including Bluetooth?)

Regarding permissions, it is possible that she is not logged into an administrator account (in which case you need to go to Device Manager as an administrator, see the previous link) or that her PC is linked to a business or organization (education license, Île de France PC...) in which case we cannot bypass these restrictions.

She has a whisker menu.

When I right-click on it, there is no device manager...

To create a shortcut to Device Manager on the desktop:

If it's a Whisker menu, wouldn't it be on Linux rather than Windows, this thing?

Thank you ;)

Well, I found it but when I click on it, I get this message:

"The drivers cannot be installed.

Please connect to the Internet or insert the installation DVD or USB key of Linux Mint."

Ah, we agree, seeing as <8>, it doesn't run on Windows.

I'm really terrible with Linux and your question might end up going nowhere now that it's been posted in the Windows section: I suggest you rephrase it in the Linux section.

Hello,

In these cases, it is better to report, we move the subject and it avoids duplication.

Thank you

Yes indeed, I just realized that!

I'll post about it on Linux.

Thanks again ;)

Hello,

It is possible to move your post to the Linux forum.

Depending on your version.

If you know, just say it.

We will move your post and add Linux to your title.

Hello,

Topic moved and duplicate deleted... this will be more convenient this way... just need to adapt the title to the relevant LINUX version...

That said, what is complicated about Linux is not only that there are several distros (Mint here if I understood correctly) but also several environments (I have Cinnamon in a virtual machine).

The question being asked is about updating the Bluetooth drivers (which does not necessarily mean that there is Bluetooth hardware), as simply as possible via an internet connection, which raises the following question: how is this PC connected, Wi-Fi or network cable?

In Cinnamon, you will find your happiness in the start button, then in the hardware icons (check the Wi-Fi or Ethernet network connection) and then the driver manager in administration for an update.

In the graphical package manager (Synaptic under Cinnamon), there is a wealth of packages concerning Bluetooth (search for this term), so only a specialist (not me) would be able to tell you which ones to check, but they should normally be updated by the driver manager if the PC is equipped with Bluetooth hardware (which I also do not know how to check under Linux).
