I also work with BitTorrent but without opening a port with the Livebox. You go to View>Preferences>Network, it gives you the number to enter.
You double-click on the Livebox icon on the desktop, you access the ADSL configuration, there you enter admin as the username and admin as the password, you click on configuration>advanced>router>you add and enter bittorrent the port numbers for bittorrent, don't forget to submit to the Livebox gateway @+
It may be better, but know that you are much more vulnerable to viruses.
I also tried the experiment with my Livebox, and realizing that I was receiving an attack every 5 minutes, I immediately closed the ports.
In fact, you should rather invest in a good antivirus, otherwise your PC won't last more than a few days (I admit that would be unfortunate anyway). It can also depend on the speed of your connection, and of course you need to allocate at least 80-90% of your bandwidth (it will slow down if you want to go online, but otherwise you won't download much).
I had downloaded BitTorrent DNA (it seems to allow for faster downloads), but from what I've seen, some internet users consider it spyware.
Basically, to download well you need:
- a good internet connection (ADSL preferably with at least 1Mb/s)
- to allocate a good part of the bandwidth
- to know how to adjust the BitTorrent software (no matter which one you have)
- not to forget a good antivirus (to “disinfect” suspicious files, avoid Norton of course...)
- also, but for storage, prefer a hard drive (I suppose you already have one), because obviously if you download multiple files at the same time, you will quickly run out of space.
