Freebox Mini 4K speed issue

Hello,

I have a problem with my Freebox Mini 4K. Some time ago, I had fiber installed, and I did several speed tests on Wi-Fi with my phone, just 1 meter away from the box, to check the speeds I was getting. The speed doesn't exceed 30 Mbps, while my plan states that I should have a download speed of 1 Gb/s and an upload speed of 700 Mb/s. Unfortunately, I haven't tried a wired test because I know I won't use it since my computer is too far from the box. However, even though I believe a wired test would give me a better speed, I think my Wi-Fi should be better than this. Do you have any ideas on how to help me resolve this speed issue? Thank you, and have a nice day/evening.

Good evening.

What Wi-Fi card do you have?

Furthermore, what phone do you have?

Hello, I have a Samsung S20 Fan Edition, I don't have a WiFi card on my computer, but to connect to the network I use a TP Link USB WiFi key. I don't remember the exact model, but I think it's an Archer T2U.

How far are you from the Freebox?

You have a good Wi-Fi adapter, you could achieve a better result.

You should try moving the PC closer to the Freebox to test both wired and wireless connections.

Hello, my computer is located on the second floor, I would say about 10 meters away from the box, separated by the ceiling and a wall. I don't have an ethernet cable in my possession, so for now I can't do any tests, but is it normal that even on my phone and less than 2 meters from the box I have such a low speed?

In my opinion, it depends on the performance of your Samsung S20.

I just ran a test from my smartphone and I'm 5 meters away from the router, I’m getting 28.8 Mbit/s.

With a wired connection, I’m getting 515.

If I activate my Wi-Fi card on my all-in-one desktop PC, I'm getting 109 (5 meters away from the router).

Alright, in fact the difference between the Wi-Fi is obvious, I thought I would get at least 100 or 200 on Wi-Fi on my phone given the offer. I will try to bring my computer closer and test with my Wi-Fi key. I'll keep you updated after the tests.

Hello,

There is wifi and wifi, several levels of standards,

wifi n (wifi 4) hardly offers more in practice than what you have there, the level of a good ADSL connection, nothing more.

You need at least wifi 5 (ac) to achieve around 300 or 400 Mbit/s in a speed test on a fiber connection, you also need to optimize the bandwidth of the channels.

If you want the full speed of the fiber, you absolutely need an ethernet cabling.

If you're allergic to cables (they can be up to 100m) and you have a certain distance, more than a few meters. You need to forget about the wifi from the routers and invest in your own mesh wifi.

Ok, I see I'm indeed on 2.4GHz wifi, so I suppose I can't have more than what I have? I've made sure to check the channels, I've optimized and taken the one that is the least used by neighboring access points.

In 2.4 GHz, there are hardly any options, a bit more in 5 GHz; it's a shame if your equipment isn't dual-band.

On the Freebox, you can also configure the channels to 40 MHz instead of 20; this significantly increases the speed, but you'll occupy twice as many channels, 8 instead of 4 (the channels are spaced 5 MHz apart in the 2.4 GHz band and 20 in the 5 GHz/6 GHz band).

In WiFi ac/ax, we can configure bands of 20/40/80/160 MHz; each time, we can double the speed, with 160 MHz, when it works, it's 4 times the speed of 40.

Unfortunately, I only have 2.4GHz so I will make do with that, thank you anyway for helping me and yes I can switch to dual band, which I will do!
