Hello,
I just bought a Lenovo laptop.
At first, Windows 10 was offered, and I installed it without any issue.
Then, I was offered to install Windows 11 by Lenovo. Okay.
The installation went smoothly, and everything works.
However, when I tried to enable the network to access my main PC and a network hard drive, I initially saw these devices, but I couldn't connect!
On this new PC, after a few manipulations, I no longer see any network, and the following information appears:
Network discovery is turned off
I've looked through the network settings to try to enable this but can't find anything!
Thank you.

    hi

check out this page for W10 --> click here

PS: it's the same procedure for W11, I just checked

go to the control panel --> network and sharing center --> change advanced sharing settings

    check the appropriate box :)

    Hello,

Besides the Bilamaxime procedure, which I commend, the SMB1 sharing protocol is active.

    See you later.

    Thank you both
I’ll look at it tomorrow, because with 36° outside and my office without air conditioning, I’m taking refuge in the cool living room...
    Good evening.

    :-)
It wasn't 36° in the office, thankfully, but it was still warm.

Since this morning, I've been fiddling around with these damn settings in every direction.
On the desktop PC side, the laptop is present, but I'm being asked for access codes! No matter which one I provide, I'm getting rejected.
On the laptop side, the desktop PC is displayed, but I get this lovely message: W cannot access...
The network hard drive is displayed, but again I'm being asked for a code on W11... However, as a media device, the hard drive opens online.
I've followed the procedure indicated by Billmaxime and granted all permissions. I wanted to remove the requirement to log in like on the desktop PC (W10), but I can't find that on W11.

I believe the problem comes from the fact that the laptop doesn't have an Ethernet connection, only Wifi.
Maybe I should create a new Wifi connection?

I haven't tried the procedure indicated by Pistouri (SMB1). I can do it on W10, but what about W11 and what does it allow? I'm afraid to torture my devices anymore.

I'm going back to the AC.

    hi

to connect 2 pcs on a network, if I’m not mistaken, you need 1 password on each pc (is that really your concern)?

    Hello

This is the first time I've noticed that I'm being asked for a password!

Anyway, W11 messed things up for me and I went back to W10.
After struggling with the Recovery function provided on the Lenovo site, due to the fact that I no longer had WIFI and no Ethernet, I was informed that this laptop had a small hole on the side that is used to reset the PC.
W10 was reinstated without any problems, in its basic version. I just had to ask Windows Update to perform all my updates.
This doesn't solve the network issue, but the multimedia HDD is accessible and will serve as a file exchange gateway.
Back in the day, we created a network and the problem was solved.
I'll leave it at that regarding this issue.
    Thanks, everyone.
