Check file creation date (m4a)

Hello,

I recorded something with my phone, then I transferred the m4a file from my phone to my computer. Is it possible to find the creation date of the m4a file (not the date I put it on the computer, I specify - besides, I no longer have the file on my phone)? How can I do that?

Hello,

There is no way through Windows: the file creation date, which can be retrieved in several ways, corresponds to the moment the file was created on the PC.

If this date exists and is stored in the metadata visible under Windows, it can also be accessed through the file properties.

If it exists but does not appear, one can attempt to extract it using a specific metadata extraction utility, ExifTools or equivalent.

Thank you. How to proceed in the last case then?

If I send you a file, could you tell me the date? I tried, but being sick right now and not being knowledgeable about it makes it complicated.

No, I'm not going to reinstall ExifTools just for that.

Note that there will only be corresponding metadata if your phone creates it automatically or if you entered it yourself, I don't really believe that.

If the command line feels tedious to you, there are graphical software options, for example:

or others, do a search "read m4a file metadata"
