I bought a Toshiba Satellite C55-A-19D laptop in 2015; after 4 years of use, a BIOS password suddenly appears. I can't use my PC or even enter the BIOS.

    Alas, this BIOS feature is indispensable.
    Most of the "tools" offered on the internet to "bypass" or "erase" the BIOS password are ineffective or worse... fake programs. Moreover, booting from another device is (often) also locked by the BIOS, so it is impossible to use a CD or USB key to try to unlock it.

    With your receipt, you can contact Toshiba's customer service: Dynabook Support Centre at +33 (0)8 92 70 00 97 or by email: laptop-support-fr (at) cco.emea.dynabook.com to request assistance (paid because out of warranty) from the service concerned.
    You should also have your machine information (label under the machine) such as its serial number.

    A BIOS password cannot appear spontaneously or accidentally. It is a procedure that can only be implemented by the administrator of a PC as enhanced protection. It exists natively on corporate PCs or on PCs made available to students by regional councils.

    Any consumer PC obviously gives access to the BIOS or UEFI, otherwise the slightest modification of system settings or repair of most malfunctions would be impossible.

    It may be that the previous owner or an technician who performed a repair inadvertently introduced this lock, in which case only he or, as indicated, the manufacturer's support can restore free access to the system.

    As mentioned, the procedure has been strengthened to respond to abuses in the form of "tips" and to ensure real protection for users.

    And of course, compliance with the law and the CCM charter applies to any visitor or contributor to this forum.
