Hello,

I can no longer/open a PDF file with OpenOffice Writer (OpenOffice 4.1.11). A window (see attachment) opens, and when I click OK, a page opens but is "encrypted" (2nd attachment)... What is the problem?
Thank you for your response.
Best regards.

    Hello
Open Office does not open PDFs without the installation of an extension
    Libre Office allows it

Thank you for your promptness! I downloaded the extension, but I can't "graft" it onto openoffice... well, too bad, libre office does its job well... I wonder why the two are in service without having the same functionalities? Best regards. Mouhot

      Hello,

The history of Open Office is a bit complicated, you have a short article here to explain why both exist https://www.meformer.org/libreoffice-openoffice-quelle-difference/

Personally, my preference goes to Libre Office =)

      Best regards.

    Hello,

The Writer modules of LibreOffice or OpenOffice do not read PDF files.
That is not their role. If you want to read PDFs, install software like Foxit Reader, Adobe Reader, or Sumatra.

However, it is worth noting that the Draw module of LibreOffice opens PDFs. It also allows for minor modifications without altering the PDF structure. To my knowledge, it is the only free PDF editor. After making changes, you need to export the file in PDF format.

    Note:
The latest versions of Word "open" PDFs. This is actually a conversion to the docx format. The file can then be edited. The result must be exported in PDF format.

      Hello,

It's the only free PDF editor to my knowledge

No, at least Foxit and Acrobat Reader, and possibly PDF-Xchange in the free version also have the same limited PDF editing capabilities (it's actually about annotations, inserting text boxes or signatures, and not really editing the "text" of the PDF itself).

Libre Office is therefore probably the only Open Source software on this list capable of doing this.

        Hello,

        I believe we agree:
For me, the addition of comments, which is normally free, should not be confused with editing the PDF.
