27-inch screen/Full HD: grainy image

Hello,

I purchased an AOC 27-inch Full HD (1920x1080) 144Hz monitor.

I also have:
- Win11 (updated from Win10)
- Asus RTX 3060 ti OC graphics card
- Intel 11600k processor

My problem is that I have a grainy image in both office applications and gaming. In games, Nvidia Experience even recommends a resolution of 1632x918 as the optimal resolution (for the best image)?!
I tried changing the resolution through Windows settings. The desktop resolution changes according to my choice, but it's impossible to change the native resolution at the same time ("active signal mode" stays at 1920x1080).

I'm desperate... if a genius can help me, I’m all ears!

Thank you very much.

Hi Midlaw,
I feel like your graphics card isn't capable of handling this resolution and/or its refresh rate.
Note: I don't know the performance of this card....

Hello Txiki,

It's anything but that! :-) My card is a next-gen GPU with Ray Tracing technology, DLSS, and more. It's actually capable of supporting more than Full HD! :-p

In the list of resolutions proposed by your graphics card driver, do you have the "native" resolution of your screen (1920x1080)?

Now, 1920x1080 for a 27" isn't exceptional.. I have a 26" and I'm already at 1920x1200.. In vertical resolution, your screen is a bit lacking...

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

I do have the native resolution of 1920x1080 in my settings, indeed.
I've already adjusted it but to no avail... The screen might be a bit limited, but I believe there's a way to set it to a lower resolution than 1920x1080... it's just a matter of knowing how.

Your screen has a resolution of 1920x1080, and it's fixed. This is the physical resolution defined by the diode matrix. There's nothing you can do about it.
What you can change is the ratio between the resolution of the images and that of the screen, and this is done in the graphics card settings.

At Apple, a 27" "Retina" display has a resolution of 5120 × 2880; your graphics card should be able to drive it as it can go up to 7680 x 4320...

Thank you for your feedback.

I have already tried changing the resolutions (and the refresh rates) in the CG and Win11 settings, but the slightly grainy effect on the image still remains...

You should test another type of screen with a higher resolution. Your graphics card can handle it.
The higher the resolution, the finer the details you can achieve.

Yes, I might have to consider a 27-inch screen but in QHD... :-s

Hello everyone,
"It's the physical resolution defined by the diode matrix.. You can't do anything about it": contrariness is right! It's physics.
Look at the manufacturer: https://eu.aoc.com/fr/gaming/search?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI77mPqO6Q9gIV45PVCh2BLQ-5EAAYASAAEgKMvPD_BwE
They offer much higher resolutions. So you chose this particular screen?
Midlaw: "The screen might be a bit limited but I think there's a way to set it to a lower resolution": ??? You can set a lower resolution (what's the point?) but not higher than the screen's. You have to go through the graphics card driver. Such a resolution is for gaming, right?
Also, check the frequency (144 Hz) may not be supported or taken into account by your graphics card.
Lastly, have you updated your graphics card?
Good luck!
