Very slow ACER computer

Hello,

I'm writing because I have a problem with my very slow PC, and I don't know much about it, so I don't know what to do..
It's an Acer Aspire 3 A315-21-91CI laptop.

It's incredibly slow, during startup, shutdown, loading pages, opening files, basically for everything. It's been like this for months and months, I've tried several things but without success.. I had kind of given up, but I need to use the QGIS software for my classes and it freezes regularly so I can't make any progress, I absolutely need to fix this issue.
The memory is not full. I bought it 3 years ago. I installed updates yesterday, and since then it's even worse, I've been trying to turn it on for 25 minutes now..
If you could help me with the checks to perform, that would be really nice!

Thank you very much

Tilly

    Hello
    To diagnose the PC:
    Download FRST 64
The SmartScreen filter may trigger an alert. Click on Actions or More information then on Run anyway
Close all applications, including the browser
    launch the program FRST.exe
you must launch it by right-clicking -> Run as administrator
Wait for it to indicate The tool is ready to use
    Click on the "Scan" button.
Wait for the scan to finish, a message will indicate that the analysis is complete.
At the end of the scan, the reports "FRST.txt" and "Addition.txt" are created.
The reports are saved in the same location as the software "FRST 64"
The principle is simple, you send each of the reports: Here
Each time, a link leading to these reports will be provided.
In return, give the two links so we can read the reports
Just do a right-click on the link provided by pjjoint then "Copy link address".
Then right-click and paste the links in your next message.

If my answer helped you, click the Thank you button.
Mark as resolved if your problem is solved.

Hello, first of all, a processor with 2 cores is really weak, but on a laptop, you can hardly change it.
The second element is the HDD hard drive, which you could replace with a 2.5-inch SATA SSD that is 4 to 5 times faster.
    Here are some examples

    Hello,
Is this a model like this one... https://www.acer.com/ac/fr/FR/content/model/NX.GNVEF.001
The PC is normally equipped with 4 GB of RAM. A bit weak to run the PC (it would be better to have 4 GB more). It has a 1 TB hard drive (HDD).

    You indicate...
The memory is not full. I bought it 3 years ago. I installed updates yesterday, since then it's even worse, I've been trying to turn it on for 25 minutes..

What do you mean by memory not full?
Don't confuse the PC memory (RAM or volatile memory) with the capacity of your hard drive (HDD).

    Hello,

Thank you for the very quick response!
    Yes, that's the one.

As for the memory, I must admit that I don't know much about it.. Looking at "properties of Acer (C)", I have 88 GB used and 841 GB free. I'm not quite sure where else to look?

Avast is useless with Windows 10; on the contrary, it is too resource-heavy.
      Remove "AVAST"
on Windows 10; there is no need for third-party antivirus.
Windows 10 has its own antivirus, "Windows Defender", which is more than sufficient.
Let Windows Defender take over, just as effective and less resource-intensive.
      To uninstall Avast, use Avastclear

The same goes for "Norton Security"; it should be removed as well.
Also, your Windows is not up to date; 21H1 is the latest version; you need to update.
Furthermore, your CPU is not powerful.
Do these three things, and I think things will already improve.
Then run a scan with FRST again and provide the two links.

    Thank you!

Yesterday I did a search for updates after downloading 3, and it indicated that there were none to be done...
I'm looking again after uninstalling Avast if I ever manage to, for now I'm trying to restart in safe mode but it's taking ages..

To update Windows 10, go to this page, click on Update now, this will start downloading the Microsoft tool, just open it and it will allow you to update Windows 10 to the latest version and inform you whether it is compatible with your PC. Be aware that this update takes some time, and if you have a laptop, plug it into a power source, as it would be a shame to run out of battery before the update is complete.

      Hello, thank you very much!

I did everything you explained to me, it's much better, I'm alive again! However, I uninstalled Norton with the specific tool, it worked, but it appears at startup and then disappears...?

3- Once the script is copied, click on Fix, FRST will automatically take the script from the clipboard.

Let the fix process complete, once it is finished you will be prompted to restart your PC, do so as soon as it asks, see below.
Then once your computer has restarted:
4- You will have a Fixlog file on your desktop, then send these reports to https://www.cjoint.com/ see this tutorial then give the link generated by Cjoint in your next message.

5- CHECK AND TELL ME IF NORTON IS STILL PRESENT

you can add a 4 GB RAM stick, it won't hurt
