New laptop very slow... what to do? Solved

Hello,
I bought an HP Pavilion dma notebook today, and it turns out that it is very slow to use (internet browsing, navigating through the PC's folders...)

I find it strange that it is slow, since, although it is a basic PC, it seems to have decent specifications... If you could help me, I would appreciate it!

Intel Core I5 2.40 GHz
4GB of RAM (3.80 usable)
64-bit operating system

Windows 7 Home Premium edition

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 9.0.1

Go to Start, type msconfig, enter the Configuration Utility, go to the Start tab, click on Advanced options, check the number of processors, click below on the dropdown menu and set it to 4, then click OK and Apply. Then go to the Startup tab, uncheck everything except your antivirus, click Apply, OK, and restart.

Let's just say it's not smooth at all!! It's lagging a bit... like when I type something here, or on Google or anywhere, it doesn't always display it instantly...

Well, I took it to customer service, they wanted to refund me without trying anything...

I eventually called Carrefour's IT hotline... They had me do a bunch of tests and manipulations...

Finally, the third guy I spoke to did something that seemed better at the time (there are two graphics cards on the PC, Intel and ATI, and he had me put the ATI into "active" mode... at first it was better, but ultimately it doesn't really change much...)

So it's either I get a refund, or two weeks in their workshop!!^^

I’ll see... What do you recommend? If I exchange, what machine should I get (max €500...?)

It's done........... but when the PC restarts, it's a black screen when it reaches Windows (I can see the startup!)  I'm on another PC right now!

What does that mean? I don't understand, did you lose your wallpaper? Is it faster now?

Well, the screen is completely black (as if it's turned off)! I can hear the Windows sound when it starts up, but the screen is completely black...

So you can't make any changes in your BIOS, you can access it?

otherwise you press F8 at startup to boot in safe mode and then recheck everything in the startup tab.

Once checked, you can uncheck them one by one in Startup and see which one is causing that.

I checked everything off when I was in no-fail mode, and the screen is still black!!! Do I need to reset the processor thing to 1?

Well no, if it's a 4 of hearts it should be on 4, but try to put it back like before and see if it does the same. Normally, if you remove everything I told you to add, it should go back to how it was before.

So, I got it, the image has reappeared with the 4 hearts, and everything is deactivated except for the antivirus...

While doing the 4 hearts manipulation, I had inadvertently checked "PCI lock"...

I unchecked it, and it's working!! Very well even, it doesn't seem to be running slowly anymore!!

Meanwhile, go to msconfig again and check if everything is still unchecked except for antivirus, and in the startup section, if you still have the number of processors checked and set to 4.

Yes, it's good for the processor.  In startup, the antivirus, HP wireless, and push call are checked!!  Should I really only leave the antivirus?
