Inactive USB ports in BIOS
Solved
Hello everyone!
I had to reinstall my HP desktop PC from the pre-installed Win 7 on the machine and Linux Ubuntu 20.04.1.
Everything works well in dual boot installed by Ubuntu on the boot drive.
However, now in the BIOS, the USB ports are recognized with their assignments but are grayed out, so I can't choose a USB port to boot from a bootable USB stick.
Once again, the USB ports are active under Win or Linux but not in the BIOS...
So there's no possibility of installing an OS via USB.
I disconnected the backup battery but the BIOS hasn't changed.
Thank you for your advice or opinions.

Hello,
The problem seems more related to your BIOS than to Windows or Linux. Check the USB options in the BIOS and make sure a USB drive is plugged in when you want to set the boot sequence in the BIOS.
Good luck

It's resolved, thank you.
With this BIOS that I'm not used to, you can't set a USB port as a boot device.
On the HP website, it explains that you need to press "Escape" at startup to get a pop-up for choosing the boot device, including USB, of course.
I don't see where it says that it's resolved.....
