Gmail issue with Firefox Solved

Question

Hello,

I have a small problem with Firefox and Gmail...
In fact, I can't open the Gmail homepage using my Firefox browser.
After a few seconds (or minutes), it shows me:

Connection timed out

The server at www.google.com is taking too long to respond.

* The site may be temporarily unavailable or overloaded. Please try again later;

* If you can't browse any site, check your computer's network connection;

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure Firefox has permission to access the web.

With Hotmail, I can access the homepage, but once I enter my login and password, I encounter the same problem.
However, both sites work perfectly with Microsoft Internet Explorer...

Could someone enlighten me?

I cleared the cookies and cache in Firefox, but that didn’t change anything...

I had the same problem and the following setting resolved it:

In the proxy configuration in Firefox (Tools/Options/Advanced/Network tab/Settings), I had selected "Manual proxy configuration" and only provided the HTTP proxy.
By checking the box "Use this proxy for all protocols," Gmail works again. Indeed, the SSL protocol is used when launching Gmail.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem.
I have disabled the Windows firewall and the antivirus but the problem remains.
My connection goes through a university proxy server where I have to enter a username and password.
Wired connection
Windows XP Home
Firefox or IE

Same thing, Firefox 2.0.0.13 and Gmail via a proxy triggers the "server not found" error while with IE there are no issues... Moreover, the Google homepage for Firefox "https://www.google.fr/?gws_rd=ssl" does not offer Gmail in the top left corner... Are we forced to use Google Notifier with Firefox???

I have exactly the same problem: for the past 2 weeks with Firefox, all Google sites that require authentication (Gmail, AdSense, Analytics) don't work (server not found) whereas they work with IE.

I deleted all cookies: nothing changed
I reinstalled Firefox: nothing changed

I am on a corporate network, so I don’t have access to my firewall settings. Does anyone have a solution?

Hi guys!  I have the same problem since I installed Firefox 3 on my PC (it worked well with Firefox 2...).  ML, what should I enter as the HTTP proxy address?  Thanks anyway for sharing your tip!

I had the same issue and it's resolved
and I think I know what changed this setting at the start
on Facebook I got a message from a friend suggesting a video...
then I got the info that my flash-thing was not up to date and when I updated it after an error message, this setting changed.

Hello - For me, the problem remains unresolved. I made the mistake of clicking on 'disconnected' (offline)

For my part, I went into Internet Options, in the "Security" tab, and unchecked the "Enable Protected Mode" box.

And ... the incredibly annoying problem (GMail almost unusable) has completely disappeared!!! :-)

Nothing easier, you go to Options / "Security" tab / exceptions, then you allow the site Http/........, your page where you're blocked from Gmail, then allow it.

And there you go, the problem is solved ^^
