Hello, are you sure that your laptop has an HDMI input? Generally, there is only an HDMI output that allows you to display the laptop screen on an external monitor.

Yes, thank you, but it's the opposite that I'm looking for. I have a DVD player with an HDMI OUT output that I've connected to my PC to view the CD-ROM (since I no longer have a CD drive on my PC), but my PC does not recognize the DVD player.

Does the HDMI connection only work in one direction? To connect my PC to a larger monitor via HDMI, there are no issues.

Yes, there is a meaning for the HDMI connection. It can either be an input port (which receives the image/sound) or an output port (which sends the image/sound).
For the connection to work, you need an input and an output.

From what I understand, it cannot work because you are trying to connect the HDMI output of the DVD player to the HDMI output of the laptop.
Finally, I think the laptop has an output because it's very rare for a laptop to have an HDMI input.

If that's the case, unless you use an adapter or a box, it will not be possible to connect the DVD player to the laptop via HDMI.
