Hello everyone,
I am a new user of LibreOffice and it seems that I have a little problem.
I am on Mac High Sierra (10.13.6) and I am using LibreOffice version 7.0.6.2
My problem is that the spacing between letters changes randomly, which makes reading difficult.
I’m including a small screenshot to show you:
Do you see what I mean?
I tried checking / unchecking kerning in Format but there was no change. I also tried with other fonts (Helvetica, Helvetica Neue, Times New Roman, Liberation Sans) and there was no difference.
My problem is that it persists when converting to PDF and thus when printing.
Have you ever encountered this? Is there something to do?
I’m coming from Word 2008 so LibreOffice is very nice because it is much more up to date, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to work on it...
Thanks in advance,
Looking forward to hearing from you
M.

Hello,
Thank you very much. I just checked, unfortunately the "hardware acceleration" option is grayed out for me (the box exists, but I can't take any action on it). Do I need to modify another setting beforehand?
Thanks in advance!

To test profile purge
Close Open Office or Libre Office
press the WINDOWS key (flag) and R (simultaneously).
-Then, type %appdata%
-Look for the OpenOffice or LibreOffice folder
-Rename it to OldOpenOffice or OldLibreOffice
and try again "hardware acceleration"

Re - re - hello,
I'm on a Mac, I imagine that must influence the procedure described? (Not least because I don't have a Windows key...)
Thanks in advance,

Good evening,
Well, it's done, the user profile has been cleared. Unfortunately, that hasn't changed anything; hardware acceleration is still not available, and the problem persists...
Any other ideas?
Thank you in advance!

Hello,
Indeed, the display is not great... Unfortunately, it persists during the export to .pdf and printing, which is very limiting.
Thank you in advance

Hello,
Try OpenOffice. The two suites coexist without any issues.
This way you can compare.
The helpful tutorial: https://forum.openoffice.org/fr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=52532
to be followed to the letter (beware of the Gatekeeper).

Hello,
Thank you for the advice, but to be honest, the idea of switching to LibreOffice was to have a program that is a bit more recent and up-to-date than the last version from 2011 (without wanting to offend anyone).
I’ll do it as a last resort, but if there are other ideas, I’m open to suggestions :-)
Thanks!

Hello,
Once again, no intention to disrespect this tool, but:
"This article was published on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 3:11 PM and is classified under OpenOffice in general."
It is also noted "a version 3.4 expected in 2012." Version 4.1 was released in 2014 and there hasn't been any major update since (a last minor version in May 2021, 4.1.10, so only 10 minor updates in 7 years...)
I will try it out for good measure, but I think we are far from the features of LibreOffice (though I could be wrong...)
Am I the only one experiencing this problem?

Hello,
Thank you, I just downloaded OpenOffice and it's true that the display works much better, nothing to say about that. I haven't tested printing yet but I think it should be fine.
However, is there no way to save in .docx? Maybe an add-on?
Have a good day,

Hello,
Don't listen to the cicadas.
OpenOffice is alive and well, despite what some may say.
As for LibO on macOS, check this out: https://forums.macg.co/threads/open-office-installation.1355085/#post-14026769
It's indeed unfortunate.
AOO opens .docx, etc., but cannot export to .docx, etc.

Thank you for the suggestion. I just tried version 6.4 and there’s no change. Do you have a version you would recommend (to avoid me searching randomly)?
Thanks in advance!
