I own a CROSSCALL Core X4, which is perfectly capable of reading QR codes.
The issue likely lies with the application used to read the QR codes.
Which application are you using?
If you're looking for a versatile QR CODE reader application, I suggest: Google Lens.
It is practical and can read QR codes, offering all the smart actions that result from the reading: WiFi connection, adding contacts, etc...
Note: Some smartphones directly offer QR code reading with the camera app. To my knowledge, this is not the case with Crosscall.
