Hello,

My HP Envy 4500 printer is no longer scanning, and consequently it can't make copies, but it prints well from a computer.

When we start a scan, we can hear it starting but then there is no "scanning" of the page.
Likewise for copies: the printer starts, looks for the sheet, and then stops.

The malfunction occurred suddenly. There are no error messages on the printer screen.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Hello,
Does the scanner bulb light up when you start a scan?
Lift the lid slightly to check.
Best regards.

Thank you.
Yes, it lights up quickly, like a flash, but it doesn't stay on.
Best regards.

Welcome to CCM
In principle, it should turn on and off when the sweeping completes its course!
It's possible that the fault is there.
Best regards.

Thank you.
To know whether the fact that the bulb turns off prevents the scanning from starting or the other way around.
Also, could I intervene in one way or another?
I think that having it repaired wouldn’t be very worthwhile, considering the purchase price of this printer.
Best regards.

Indeed, the wiper of the window and the turning on of the lamp are linked; if one doesn't work, the other won't either!
If you are handy and familiar with a screwdriver, you might be able to intervene; taking it to a repair shop could end up costing the price of a new one, which is preferable to avoid.
Maybe check beforehand if this lamp is functioning properly, with the complete references of the machine, this should be doable.
Best regards.

I will try to look into this calmly tomorrow.
It's already good to at least understand the source of the problem.
Thanks again and have a good weekend.
Best regards
