Hello,
I have a Xiaomi TV L65M5-5ASP, and I would like to be able to output sound through the TV speakers and the optical output at the same time.
The problem is that when I go into the sound options, I can only choose either the speakers or S/PDIF.
My mother-in-law is hard of hearing and has devices to connect to the TV; the box must be connected either via the jack or the optical output... but both options disable the sound from the speakers. It's not practical for watching a movie together.
What would be the solutions if the TV does not support dual audio output? If I get a soundbar, would that mean I can only have sound from either the speakers or the soundbar?
Thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows / Chrome 90.0.4430.93

Hello,
There must be a way in the menu to enable the optical output without turning off the TV speakers.
However, one question...
Who supplies the image to the TV?
If it’s a decoder or a TV box, it probably also has an audio output that can be used for the headphones (likely requiring a converter depending on the type of headphones).
What are the references for the headphones (Brand and model)?
It's very difficult to catch a black cat in a dark room.
Especially when it's not there...

Hello, we all have at some point tried to have 2 independent audio streams and be able to adjust the volume individually, and it was a real headache.
I suggest wireless headphones with an amplifier and volume control; there are various prices available.

You just need to find an audio output, RCA red and white, on your television other than the headphone jack.
For your information, I don't know your mother-in-law's hearing level.
I use a hearing aid, and I was offered as an option a box that connects to the TV and is managed by a remote control.
Another option to consider is to duplicate your optical socket with this device.

Plus a converter.

Another option is that you mentioned having a soundbar; if you have a recent TV, you will use the HDMI port for the soundbar at the output of the decoder or your TV, thus leaving the optical port free.

Hello,
Thank you for your response, but it doesn't solve my problem. Nothing tells me that once plugged in, the sound will continue to come from the speakers.
Thanks anyway.

I suggest different options as I mentioned; many have struggled with the solution. You will obviously need 2 levels of listening, so 2 sources
either headphones or hearing devices with ambient sound amplification without connection to the TV
or headphones with a connection to the TV. Baladur also goes in this direction.
