Hello everyone, annoying question

AZERTY keyboard MacBook Pro mid-2012

I can't seem to type the famous hashtag...

When I press the corresponding key on my keyboard (with shift), I get a >
When I try to type an @ (same key without shift), I get a <

In the settings > Languages and Region > Keyboard Preferences > I select French, but I can't find the keyboard that matches the keys...

Has anyone ever encountered this difficulty?
Thank you, have a nice evening.

Would it be a MacBook Pro with a "francized" US keyboard hastily done? We've seen cases like this before, and in this case, macOS doesn't fully recognize them, and some characters don't match the markings. Is your left "Shift" key wide, as wide as the right one, or is it narrow with the <>< key right next to it?

If that's the case, you can "remap" your keyboard with Ukelele to make it "conform" to your keys. Also, see here for more details (and another adaptation method, but it's paid, so not a priority in my opinion).

Normally, you should also be able to find out how to type the hashtag using the "Keyboard Viewer" from the "Input" menu (the little flag to the right of the menu bar), which may be more convenient for the moment.

Hello at your place!

Thank you Aliboron Martin,

so yes it smells like a "Francized" US Mac because the "shift" keys are large both of them.

Indeed, with the visual keyboard I can confirm that I cannot see a possible hash...

I will try Ukulele, thank you for this response!

Hello,

And in System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Source, which language is selected?

What does the keyboard viewer say?
