File Explorer opens with Internet?!?

Hello everyone, nice to meet you!

I’m facing a problem I’ve encountered for the past 2 days. (I think it started messing up since Google hassled me to open my PDFs)
When I want to send an attachment in an email (through any messaging services: orange, gmail, etc., and even via messenger, etc., etc.) I no longer have the icon for my file explorer (the little suitcase) but the Chrome icon instead. So I uninstalled Chrome, and the explorer opened with Firefox, which has become my default browser!
I’ve looked everywhere, to no avail!
I’m not an expert, I hope you understand what I mean, and that you will help me solve this issue. I’m attaching screenshots.
Thank you in advance for your help, and sorry if this post is not in the right place on this forum...
Looking forward to your replies, best regards
Corinne

I forgot to mention: I’m on PC and Windows 10

    Hello,

If you wish, the drag and drop works in Gmail for example (to attach files).

So far, one had to click on the “Attach a file” link and then select the file to attach in the pop-up window.

This step is now avoidable. By minimizing the main window, it is now possible to drag a file directly into the email. You just need to drop it in the green area that is created automatically (see our image), where the message “Drop your files here” appears. Obviously, you can select multiple files at the same time and drag them simultaneously.

    The rest

This will save you from opening the explorer from the messaging.

Hi Pistouri, thanks for your reply. I notice in your screenshot that your file explorer also opens with the internet: the Firefox icon and not the document holder (small suitcase).
Thanks for the info on the "drag and drop" that I also use.

I still don't understand this change on my PC and I'll try to get used to it.

      Have a good Sunday.
      See you soon!

I notice on your screenshot that your file explorer also opens with the internet: the Firefox icon and not the document folder (small suitcase).

It's simply because Gmail opens from a browser.
The browser logo appears in the top left corner.

Same for Google Chrome (Chrome icon in the top left)

    Same with Edge:

This regardless of the default browser (Edge icon in the top left).

    (small suitcase)

It may have been there in a previous version of Windows 10.
In any case, it is not there with 20h2.
This does not prevent the Windows explorer from opening and navigating through your documents or images, for example, to attach a file.

    Check your W10 version
In the search box on the taskbar type ==►winver.
Or with the keyboard keys Windows + R
Note your version in your next message.

I have a Gmail extension for the Firefox, Chrome and Edge browsers so I don't have to type it each time, and it gives the same result.

Microsoft recently revised the explorer process and improved the search, which ultimately gives a new customization, a new look if you prefer.

Have a nice Sunday to you too.

      Hi Seb
      Thanks for your reply

      Pistouri:

To both of you: the fact that opening the explorer via a browser freaked me out (big brother is watching you ^^)
I was worried that they would have access to all my personal files and documents, I felt safer before, with my suitcase!
In conclusion, you experts reassure me if you find this normal :) thank you for your insights.

Have a nice day to both of you

Don't worry about that, they don't have access to your personal files, luckily ^^.

    Forget the suitcase.

See if you can do this ==► How to install the October 2020 update 20h2

    See you

@Pistouri: There, I've installed everything, I'm not really sure what it's for, but I trust you! And I promise, I'll forget my suitcase :p
      Thanks to you all anyway.
I have another question, unrelated to what came before.
Why does only the "control panel" shortcut not stay fixed in the place I assigned it when I open my computer? (I'm a bit obsessive, I like everything to be organized in the places I set^^)
After that, I promise I won't bother you anymore!!!

There, I've installed everything, I'm not really sure what it's for

It's nice to have done it since it takes about an hour, maybe a bit more, it's a major update that happens twice a year (Not to be confused with patch day, which is the one offered on the second Tuesday of each month).
It serves to keep your PC and Windows up to date.

Why does only the "control panel" shortcut not stay fixed in the place I gave it

I don’t know how you added the control panel shortcut.

Delete it (put it in the recycle bin).

To add it, go to Settings►Personalization
    Left menu -►Theme
Right-click on the line -►Desktop icon settings
Check the box for Control Panel.
    Click OK
If you don’t have it, check User Files (it's a bit like Explorer, but more complete), you will find it on the Desktop with your username.

Sometimes system icons, including the control panel, can move and not keep their position on the Desktop.

    Delete it.

    Go to This PC-►Local Disk (C)-►Windows -►System32
Scroll down the list to ==► control
Right-click on control -►Send to Desktop (Create a shortcut).

    Hello,

(I think things went wrong since Google bothered me to open my PDFs)

If you could tell us what went wrong with Google Chrome, please.

    Try this:
    Close your applications (Browser, Explorer...)
Go to Settings ► Applications ► Default applications
At the bottom of the window, restore the default values.
    Click on -►Reset

Restart the PC and do a test.

    See you later

Good evening, I did this operation, "reset" it didn’t work :(

Explanation: when I received a PDF document by email, I kept getting a message asking how I wanted to open it and inviting me to set something as the default, usually I ignored this request. But due to my frustration, I modified as indicated under "settings", "applications", "default applications", "choose default applications by file type", I clicked on PDF in the list and changed (capture nr 1) by selecting "PDF READER"
The subsequent issue appeared after making this change and I don’t see what I can do, (I still tried uninstalling this program), the problem persisted when I tried to send an email or a message on messenger (photos, or docs) opening the explorer via the internet

I hope I am understood! I don’t really master all this! Certainly, it's probably not serious, but I am unsettled by not having my little suitcase when I search for my documents

      Thank you for your feedback,
      Corinne

Hi, it's normal, you want to import an image on Facebook from Chrome.

?? no: when I want to send a file (photo, Word doc, Excel, etc.) in Gmail or my Orange inbox, when I click "insert," I no longer see the little suitcase "files" (file explorer), but the Chrome icon which is my default browser.
Similarly, if I want to send a file (not just photos) in Messenger (see the screenshots of my first message)

It's perfectly normal, you're trying to import a photo with your browser which is Chrome. If you want the little suitcase, you need to open it directly from the Windows taskbar.

@seb77150: I don't want to import anything, I just want to send
in other words, I want to attach a file to an email from my desktop (PC)

When you want to send your file, you import a file to send it. This file is imported from Google Chrome, so it's normal that it opens with Chrome.

Weird, why is it being imported from Chrome? Before the PDF manipulation, my docs were imported from my computer to emails as attachments via Windows Explorer.

    Contents for you.
Pastouri =pistouri (no worries, I love it too)

Check if the system restore is enabled; it often happens that you need to activate it manually.
    ==►Configure Windows restore points
And take the opportunity to create a restore point; it only takes 1 minute, even though Windows creates them automatically during updates, in case of problems, it will give you a backup option.

You can mark the subject as resolved

Have a great end of the weekend.
