Hello,
When I save routes on hiking websites, and I want to save them as GPX and/or KMZ files, they always save in the format "XML Editor" (see screenshot on IGN rando for example).
No matter the format chosen, the only way to save these files is in the format mentioned above.
Does anyone have any idea or trick to get out of this problem?
Thank you

I made the same observations as you.
In the end, Firefox sees an XML file to download, and that’s the one it offers.
I did an additional test. I uploaded a KML file to cjoint and downloaded it with Firefox. There, no problems. Firefox recognizes a KML file and downloads the correct file for me.
So, Firefox is not entirely responsible for the issue. I’m trying to understand what the interaction is between the browser and IGPNRando.

What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to say it come easily.

I don't have a "KML" file, I only have "KMZ" (Google Earth). So I can't test your experience.
I also think the issue comes from FF, since with Edge, there is no problem.
And changing the extension doesn't always work. I did it, and when I tried to open the (modified) GPX, this site (http://www.mygpsfiles.com/app/) couldn't open it.
Let's stop here, Pierr. I'll download the GPX files from IGN using Edge (as I said). Then I'll continue my work with FF.
Thank you, happy holidays.

Hello,
For me, there are no problems.
KMZ files are zipped KML files. Google Earth can open both.
Here’s what I did:
Using Firefox, I selected a hike in IGNRando and requested its export in GPX. I received an XML file that I immediately renamed with the .gpx extension.
I repeated the operation twice, successively requesting exports in KML and then KMZ; and I changed the extensions.
So I obtained 3 files on my computer: GPX, KML, and KMZ of the same hike.
Google Earth was able to open the KML and KMZ files.
For the GPX file, I used the site you mentioned (mygpsfiles). The import went smoothly.
I also sent this file to my smartphone and was able to display the hike with the app Geo Tracker.
I stopped the tests there.
I consulted an IT professional. He indicated that there is a syntax error in the headers of the file sent by IGNRando. So for him, Chrome or Edge can handle this error, but it doesn't work with Firefox. (I wouldn't have figured that out on my own!). Hence the idea of only changing the extensions, considering that the file content is correct.
Have a nice day!

You explained very well, perfect.
As soon as I have a little time, I will proceed as you did, and I will let you know the answer.
However, I believe I did what you said regarding changing the extension. Refusal on (mygpsfiles).
I will try the manipulation again. Maybe I did it wrong.
Wink for (the IT guy).
For your information, on Android, I use "GPX Viewer". Awesome.
When you download a file, there's no need to search for the app to open it, it finds it all by itself.
I will try "Geo Tracker" to compare.
Have a good evening.

Finally, it seems that it is Firefox that does not give the correct extension to the files.
So, it is simply necessary to change the .xml extension to .gpx if an export in gpx was requested.
The same goes for the other exports.
I tested it on a kml. I get a file that opens correctly in Google Earth. It seems to be correct.

That's exactly it. You see that you understand well :-)
I requested a gpx file and a kmz file that I received without any issues.
Maybe you could try changing your browser.
Did you get the options presented in the screenshot I forwarded in the initial message?
So if you indeed followed this procedure, you should have obtained a GPX file and another in KMZ.
Change browser (I have Firefox). Okay, I'll try.
However, until recently, I had no issues performing these actions. I had been working on route recordings through IGN for months. In the end, I encountered no problems.
And I have always had Firefox Mozilla.
I don't understand anything, grr.
With this browser, the files open in the proposed formats, namely in GPX and/or KMZ. No problem.
We could therefore say that the problem comes from Firefox.
Why (before I post this message) was I not encountering any issues with this browser? Where could this thorn come from?
Uninstalling FF and reinstalling it? I’m not so sure about that.
Also, I will still go ahead with the operation.
And I will let you know how it goes.
I will try it with Firefox. No time right now.
Thank you for introducing me to this website, free of ads and various solicitations.
