Fiber and Ethernet Cabling in an Old Building

Hello
Yesterday the technician installed fiber at our place. Our house is old, so there are no RJ45 sockets anywhere. He moved the box next to the DTI in the utility room and put his fiber boxes next to it. He told us to replace our old phone sockets with RJ45 sockets as we did. And to connect the box with an RJ45 cable to the DTI (on that side, the stripped RJ cable is connected to the DTI with a blue and blue/white wire)... that then we would have internet everywhere by connecting an RJ cable from the RJ socket to our computers... except that nothing works... is what he told us true??
Thank you in advance

Hello,

It's a bit rushed and that's not how it works.
First of all, the telephone cable is not suitable: you need to use Cat 6 Ethernet cable.

Next, the telephone sockets were likely wired in parallel. I assume they are placed one after the other. This type of connection does not work for a network.

What you can do immediately is install a network cable going from the pantry to the apartment with one RJ45 socket at each end. Since the house is old, the cables are probably exposed, and you will only need to replace one of the telephone cables.
You will connect the box to the RJ45 socket in the pantry.
You will then have a first operational socket in the house. You can plug a router into this socket. This way, you will have Wifi and additional Ethernet sockets to connect the player or install other RJ45 sockets.

What is well conceived is clearly expressed,
And the words to say it come easily.

Thank you for your response... we don't have an RJ45 socket in the pantry... the box is connected in the pantry and for now we still have internet via wifi (not everywhere) and through the powerline adapter... basically if I understand correctly, the guy told us nonsense... we cannot connect the old telephone sockets (converted to RJ45) to the box via a box/DTI connection? The best option is to buy powerline adapters for our computers before calling an electrician to review everything?
Thank you!

Yes, I just understood... we'll do a first wiring from the pantry to the living room, for example, with RJ45 on each side... I'll put the box in the pantry and then the one in the living room will be used to distribute to the others?
