Problem receiving SMS with Xiaomi Redmi Note 9

Hello,

My son and I bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 about 3 months ago.
For some time now, to receive messages from certain contacts, we have to turn on our Wi-Fi.
I called my carrier, reset the phone, deleted and re-added the affected contacts, and it's still the same.
I'm a bit annoyed because I bought the phone for my son so he could send me messages since he's starting middle school, but with this issue, he won't be able to since he has a 2-hour SMS/MMS and internet plan with Wi-Fi.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I was recommended this phone which was supposedly great, and well, I'm starting to regret my Samsung.

In the app settings for "Messages," you may need to disable the "chat features."

Hi, in fact I found out where the problem came from.
The person I was having the problem with had the chat features connected, so that's why I had to use my wifi to receive their messages.
